Considering a move in the next year or so - Greenville or Fayetteville/NWA?

We’ve been looking at these two areas specifically. I’ve been to both of them before, Greenville about 10 years ago, Fayetteville about a year ago and several other times.

I’m not really a big city guy. Mid sized cities are more my speed.

Things we are looking for - more seasonal weather than South LA, some terrain nearby (mountains, hills, scenery), low crime and good public schools. The burbs are fine as long as the commute isn’t that long. The wife would never consider living in a very rural area.

They are a comparable distance from home so that’s not a factor. Greenville is a lot closer to my wife’s family but still far enough away. The COL seems comparable.

I'm curious about the OT's opinion on these two and which you all would prefer?

Both beautiful areas. I would probably go Greenville.

me and the wife have already discussed it too

I'd prolly go with Greenville, simply due to the proximity to the coast and mountains in NC...and Atlanta not too far away if you want to hop in the city.

I've been to Rogers, AR...and it was beautiful, but I don't think I could live there.

Spent a good bit of time there. Beautiful country, growing quickly, and not thaaaat far from my folks in LA.

Proximity to the coast, Charlotte, Atlanta, and mountains.

Eta: but I've visited Fayetteville and Springdale and wouldn't have an issue living there either.

My dad would move with us but not live with us unless his health eventually necessitated it. My mom and I aren't particularly close. I have a younger sister here still too but kind of the same thing. Everyone else is dead or out of state.

My parents are quickly coming around to the idea of moving due to the ineptitude of our state

Fayetteville for the college town scene.

Bentonville would be my choice, great downtown area. Close to lots of outdoor activities, the bike trails are awesome if you’re into that.

My mom will never leave. My dad already spends half of the year out of state anyway. He just said he'd prefer to live near me and my family. He's 70 now but single and doesn't really have anyone else to help him if his health fails.

NWA is beautiful. Truly an amazing place. It’s better than Greenville, in a vacuum.

Unfortunately, NWA is shockingly remote. It’s not close to literally, anything worthwhile for 6 hours. Keep that in consideration.

And I'd get to go watch LSU skull drag the pigs every few years

I can always work remotely but what's the IT job market like in that area?

Yep, really only close to Tulsa. I have considered that.
