"Earnings" really don't determine who is in the 1%. There are lots of people with nice six figure incomes who really aren't very wealthy at all. They spend too much, are highly leveraged, etc. It is wealth and the ownership of assets that separates the 1% from the rest. The real 1% don't need to exchange work for earnings.

When you look at it by age it gets even lower. For example, a 25 year old earning $150,000 would be in the top 1 percent of people his age. I don’t know the actual amount but for that age it’s close to that.

I mean, I understand the point you’re making. But “nice six figure incomes” =/= $488k/year. I don’t know anyone making half a mil per year that I wouldn’t consider “wealthy.”
