This thread is ridiculous. Any employee showing signs of inebriation are sent to a drug testing facility. Why would anyone search their office? Creepy.

Major.

If he drives drunk from the office, then gets into a wreck and there is suspicion on the company's behalf that he was drinking prior to the incident his attorney could come back on your guys.

Stay in your lane and mind your mutha fricking business.

Did anyone get hurt?
Did anything get messed up?
Did anything significant happen?

If that is all no, then go worry about something that actually matters

Honestly, many people are relieved once they get gut checked and have to pay for the mistake. It costs a job sometimes before you get your head straight, if you do. The alcohol will always be there so it can go round for round with you, if youd like.

Buy a cheap breathalyzer from Walgreens and tell him you need him test it.

If he refuses then fire him.

Working in and around the construction industry from my perspective if you ran off everyone who was drinking or stoned you would have to dig them ditches and hang that drywall your damned self....frick that, leave 'em be....

He sounds a little like me back in 2007-8. I would spend my afternoons in strip clubs and then stumble back to the office (broke) and tell people I was at a meeting.

Good times.

Are you this person's supervisor? If you think this individual is drinking and you're not this person's supervisor, you can certainly side-eye him, but it's not any of your business what he's doing.

I was in a workplace in the past where too many people where far too many people were in other people's business and where I had a coworker snitching on me for being late, when I was doing a better job than she was.

Don't be that person. Mind your own business.

What type of business is this? Since I run a restaurant searching belongings really is my only recourse. I had one that I knew would be a problem when I saw her out drinking straight whiskey and vodka. I started hearing comments being made and grabbed her stanly and gave it a whiff. Her defense was she grabbed the wrong cup leaving for work...

Yes, for several reasons.
First, it reflects badly on the firm and, by extension, you.

Second, if you witnessed it and did not report it, you could be disciplined.

Lastly, depending on the job, having someone impaired on site can lead to dangerous situations. I quit a construction job when I was 19 because the other people on the job came in still half in the bag from the night before. This included the crane operator. I mentioned it to the supervisor; He said it was just part of the trade. That was my last time working construction.

You should be fired on the spot for this.

Technically it’s not ‘his’ office. It’s the company’s.

White collar professionals often have alcohol on the job. Usually at restaurants during lunch but some keep a bottle in a desk drawer. Blue collar guys prefer to smoke a joint on lunch breaks.
