Tuesday, first candidate no showed for a confirmed interview (healthcare related). Candidate, to date, has not attempted to reach out to offer reason.

Wednesday, first candidate no showed for confirmed interview (office management position). Candidate, called this morning to let me know of her child's emergency, which turns out, not to be an emergency at all. Amazing that a phone, e-mail or text only work AFTER a missed interview and not PRIOR.

Thursday, another candidate no showed for a confirmed interview (office management position).

The jobs are out there people. But you have to have some desire to ACT like you want them.

Same type of situation applies in the service related business. I called four businesses recently. I spoke with two of them. One wrote me back to say that he will come by to take a look at what I am looking for the next day. He never showed up. Another sent me a text to say, I'll call you back tomorrow. He never did. The third company actually did what he said he was going to do. The four company, never responded. I went with the third company, simply because they were the only one that followed-up.

Is that really the difference today? Just following up?

You could be on to something.

But if that were the case, don't confirm an interview. Or better yet, don't submit your resume or application.

Anyone in business is a recruiter. Just like everyone in business is in sales.

But no, I am not a "recruiter" by title.

We are remodeling and I run into this constantly. Some businesses don't answer their phones or return calls. We go with the ones who do, even if they cost more.

Yeah they probably found or got an offer from a better one.

The third business that I chose to do work for me was not the cheapest, at least based upon the one other conversation I had with another company.

But because he followed up, when no one else did, is the reason why I went with him.

I don't mind paying more if I feel the value is there (service, accountability, reliability, etc.).

As a job seeker, this isn't true for professional careers in Louisiana

It is common practice now for companies to ghost interviewees if they aren't going to be hired. I've had this happen several times, and know plenty of people who have experienced the same.

which would be fine. Anyone that can better themselves, I'm all for it.

But that doesn't give someone the excuse to not remain or act professional and courteous. Everyone's time is important and being respectful of that should be a given.

Sounds like you need to raise the starting pay and get some better candidates. The job market is tight right now. The good ones are already working.

I don't practice that. Hell, these are first interviews that I am doing.

Dude, no one freakin cares about the stupid terrible paying jobs you’re offering. You sound like a classic idiot boomer acting like you’re offering these people the world, when you probably give them minimum wage and no benefits. But they just need to pick up their bootstraps, right. Get outta here!!

I think your real problem is no one is interested in your jobs. Thats not a candidates fault, thats the managers fault. Make it more appealing with higher wages, better benefits, etc, and you will get better candidates.

Our pay is very competitive for the type of work in the industry for which I am hiring for.

What's funny though is that pay hasn't been discussed ... it's the first interview and it's not listed in our job description. I'm happy to share this information during our initial discussion but with three people, I haven't had that opportunity even after confirming the appointments.

Im sure this has been said before, but I heard it the first time on a Dave Ramsey broadcast: If you do what you say you're gonna do, when you say you're gonna do it, you got 90% of the yahoos in the world beat. The rest is a dogfight over who wants it more.
I'm surprised how true this in life and I'm saddened for the future. The more standards are lowered for inclusivity and quotas are established to make sure "everyone gets a chance" - the worse the problem will get. There's a reason why people that work hard and smart get ahead.

Not true. For one position, I had 97 applicants apply within a matter of 3 days.

I narrowed the field down to 15 to discuss with based upon criteria that I am looking for.
