Not only do I go to all my scheduled interviews, I often get there 30 minutes ahead of time. Doesn't seem to make a difference.

100 % true.

Now get out of here with that logic ...

Many, who have commented, are telling me I'm not offering enough money ... or I am not making the job attractive enough ...

With me, it does. I'm appreciative of a person's time, planning and preparation.

Keep you head up.

Our pay is very competitive for the type of work in the industry for which I am hiring for.

You are hiring an Office Manager. That isn't an industry specific job unless I am completely missing what you are hiring for. If you want a good candidate you cannot be competitive in pay you have to lure someone over. The good people are working right now already and are not going to leave for a competitive rate. They need a bump up.

I was recently hiring for a similar position and I found the above out the hard way and when I corrected got great candidates.

I am someone who freaks out about the possibility of being late. And so i’m Always 20-30 minutes early for every appointment. Most people don’t mind it, but i’ve Had some people that when I showed up early they are annoyed by it

I'm being vague on purpose. It's more than that, but I don't want to be too specific on here.

That’s par for the service industry. I’d say about 1 in 4 will actually respond to a request for a quote

Millennial dude in my office says ghosting on interviews and even accepted jobs is a phenomenon. USA Today had this on it.

It seems like someone who had the capital, resources, knowledge, drive and follow-up skills could make a killing in the service industry.

At the end of the day you have to ask yourself this:

Which candidate can sell Cutco knives the best?

Will you’re interviewing trash man. People don’t do that if they’re educated and interviewing for a good job

Yes, people don't care about following up at all.

I have a garage that has a storage building on top of it, it's completely free span, no pillars or anything, open 2 car garage, so it took some pretty major trusses and such to accomplish. Well, recently my garage door has been sagging. Need to replace the garage door header board. I did my research on the internet and decided that a specialized engineered piece would be the best bet, I found a company about 70 miles away that sells these. So I called them. The guy takes all my figures and says he'll get with an engineer figure out exactly what I need and get an exact price but that I'm probably looking somewhere in the $500 range, and then give me a call see what I think. Three weeks later I call the guy cuz I haven't heard from him and it was quite obvious that he had completely forgotten about me.

You absolutely can.

I made a killing in school bartending and waiting tables because, get this, I showed up to work on time, was sober when i was there, and did what they asked of me.

Is that really the difference today? Just following up?

My dad gave me a good piece of advise. 90% of life is just showing up. It's amazing the number of people who can't manage that.

If you are not posting the pay for borderline professional jobs that's half your issue. If its a job where someone does not know the pay is at least very good, you will get a lot of people that are half arse looking for a better job and not really care. They have a job already and they don't know your job is better for a fact, so they don't want to stick their head out too much at their current job.

I always do a quick phone interview for those positions. Easier to spend 5 minutes on the phone vetting them than 15 minutes of my time wasted meeting them in person or waiting for them to no show.
