Someone once said "if you have to make a chart to prove your point then you have a shitty point".

The only people who seem to care about Standard Time are retired boomers and criminals who be raping errybody after dark.

I see the "muh chirrens at da bus stop" argument brought up as well. Who the frick lets their kids ride the bus since the mid 90s?

Nobody gives a shite what some survey from 1973 said.

Standard would be fine in the summer. Sunset at 8pm is late enough.

You live in Georgia?

I appreciate the passion, but it's not really a debate.

If you like DST you should hope that they don't decide to stop switching the clocks.

It's not an argument here. It will be standard time.

Go out on the street at 6:30 AM and tell me how many cars and joggers you see on the road. Now do the same at 5:45 or 6 PM. It's not even close. 1,000x as many cars and people active outdoors at 6 PM than 6:30 AM.
So, if this is true (which I believe it to be), then why would you want to
quote:

Abolish daylight savings.
That would mean that it would be dark at a time when there is much more activity.

I think you are getting your thoughts confused and would prefer to stay with daylight saving time.

I'm absolutely fine with a 7pm sunset. There's no reason it should EVER be daylight in Georgia at 9 pm. Period.

Yeah. Switching really doesn't bother me at all.

There's no point in arguing, anyway. It will be standard time.

One of the best parts of living in Arizona was that they never change the time. Let's just go to whatever they're using and be done with it. Such a dumb system to change the clocks.

They're on Standard time year round.

:raises hand:

I long my long summer days, and I dig colder evenings and early sunsets for my November and December football games.

Just cut the grass on the weekend…?

With the accuracy of GPS clocks and cell phones keeping track of time, we could cut the time zones in to halves and move the clock back :30 minutes in those edge zones where it would be too dark too early or late.

Another idea is just put the entire nation :30 minutes ahead year round. It would be The Great Compromise between year round Standard Time and Year Round DST.

I've never had an issue with the way it is now. I don't really understand the arguments at all. The extra hour of daylight is nice in summer and the earlier sunrise in winter is better than it still being dark at 8AM. (Being dark during morning rush hour is a major safety hazard).

Oh and for those who just hate changing clocks, this isn't 1985 anymore. Yes it was a pain back then, but now most of our clocks set themselves. Your cell phone sets itself as do all your computers and TVs. The only thing you'd have to change is a wall clock, but you can buy those that set themselves as well.

Yes. Any trade or utility worker who needs daylight to do their job wouldn't be able to start until 8 or later.

It would also impact rush hour with those 6-7 AM early birds now trying to commute from 7-8. And it would repeat in the PM.

Just cut it on the weekend or pay somebody to cut it for you during the day while you're at work.

The grass isn't even growing this time of year anyway and by the time it does start growing the days are naturally getting longer.

Most of these people think it would still get dark at 5:15 during the Spring and Summer if not for DST.

DST year round. It's dark when I get to the office at 6:30 AM regardless. More daylight in the evenings is immensely preferred to earlier sunrises.

I understand that, but here in the south, I like my 8 pm sunsets in the Summer instead of 7 pm. Who needs the 5 am sunrises in the Summer? That is a waste of sunlight that can be used in the afternoon.

The problem with DST is at the edges of the time zones. Where the sunrise is too early or not early enough.

My compromise is move time a half hour up and call it a day year round.
