The US calculates it on working age people actively searching for a job,,,however the percentage of working age people actually employed is less than 50%. I can’t provide a source, that intel was given at a presentation a few months ago by an economist at a conference I attended.

This is verifiably false. We have the Labor Force Participation rate which is number of people over 16 actively working divided by total population over 16. It’s around 62%.

Our U-6 (unemployment + marginally attached workers) unemployment rate is just north of 7%. That’s actually pretty good historically and close to what we were pre-pandemic. It’s also the the most accurate unemployment indicator.

I wonder how many people of working age, from 18-65, are unemployed? That is the real unemployment rate.

That’s an irrelevant figure.

Your gaslighting it doesn't make it irrelevant.

Is he/she employed?

This could not be more wrong. Is the bum standing on the corner asking for "Anything helps" employed or unemployed?

I have community members getting SS checks for covid brain. Fybromyalgia. And other invisible ailments.

My cousin suffers from both. The disability checks don’t pay for much so he was forced to become a charter captain because it pays cash and the disability investigators don’t have a boat

It used to require permanent disability to qualify with annual check ups.

I've been told that qualifications for SSDI are only >1 yr disabilities now.
And it appears that a good hit of those qualifying are working after meeting the qualifications.

can't fathom not wanting to work if you're able to. I don't get people who don't have any drive to succeed and make something of their own.

If I didn’t need to work to pay bills and set up my family’s future, I sure as hell wouldn’t work. There are numerous things I am interested in and would like to do instead of sitting in offices. I can’t fathom anyone thinking otherwise.

Work is a necessity not something by which a persons worth should be measured.

Entitlement programs make up roughly 49% of the budget.

It's well below 50% less than when Brandon took office. So yeah, it has gone down, bigly.

In 2022 we spent 24 billion on unemployment. Of our 6.27 trillion budget, that's a whopping 0.38%

The government has also meddled with the inflation formula to make that number look better than it is. They’ve removed things that actually hit people like food costs.

I believe it. The government is constantly screwing us over. Social security is the worst. A person should get back every dollar put into social security.
Why do we continue allowing this government "of the people, for the people" steal our money and lie to us? At what point does it blow up?

Never disputed that. But we spend roughly half of our budget on entitlement programs. One of the biggest being social security, which is just a joke.
