no way turning over control to someone else and not being able to control who you ride with is better.

100% agree here. I like having control. I used to travel with a group of coworkers a lot for work years ago. Sometimes we drove individual cars and other times we had to pile into large 15 passenger vans for hours-long trips. That was miserable and each time I always volunteered to drive. No way I was handing control of MY life over to a coworker.

Smart move and much less stressful travel. I would do that too.

Trains are much safer than cars. Plus I can use the internet or watch hulu and drink a beer on the way home from work.

Yup. The day I got rid of my car was one of the best days of my life.

40 minute commute in anything sounds miserable

I'd love to be able to hop on a train and ride to work every day. Commuting an hour each way is getting old

Have to take I-95 from downtown to get to the turnpike. The turnpike interchange by Jackson North Hospital is one of the biggest logjams on I-95

I know, south FL traffic sucks, and has the worst drivers I've ever encountered(for years I thought TX had the worst, and they're close,) I lived in Jupiter and worked in Miami for years, I absolutely hated the drive, and as I mentioned above, Tri-Rail sucked and really wasn't much of an option

But how are people going to admire your truck nuts and Calvin peeing on a Chevy emblem?

Spotify has THOUSANDS of Podcasts including Dan Carlin and True Crime galore.
Combined with EBR Liberry App for Audio Books, my commute is rather educational and easy to zone out while focusing on the road.

That said I would love and use commuter train between BR and Nola.

I did it for 7-8 years and I agree. I'll never live more than a few miles from where I work again.

Easily

Cars and trucks = freedom and independence.

Yeah apparently it's solid in dallas area until you hit the downtown dallas corridor. Where the piss smiling bums start being able to get on. Then you can walk on the platforms thru the landmines of feces, beggars, and bums whacking it.

The only good public transport in miami is the metrorail express link to the airport and the metromover downtown. The bus system, the metrorail except for the airport link, and tri-rail all suck.

It is funny tho that people in shite states like Louisiana bag on public transportation being for the poors and dangerous when in most cities it is completely opposite.
We "bag on it" bc the public transit systems here are complete garbage, and are therefore really only used by "poors" (at least in BR; NOLA is a little different with the street cars). The only people who use public transit here are the ones with no other option. So it's not really "funny" at all. It makes perfect sense, as a matter of perspective.

also, if i decide i want to stop somewhere, i just stop. if i decide to change directions, i can do that too.

That's all reasonable. But it's not an argument against commuter rail. You're life would be enhanced by efficient public transportation, even if you aren't the one riding it. If public transportation were more reliable, more people would be riding it giving you more room on the road and making your commute shorter.

The conversation should never be about replacing one with the other, but figuring out how they can all work together in tandem to make everyones life easier.
