I've lived both places and Lafayette isn't so much better that I would make that drive everyday. I'm not sure what is here that you can't find in LC. Enjoy the Darrel's poboys.

Can make that drive in 50 minutes one way and no traffic. Not terrible, but probably worth it to look into moving somewhere in between if possible. Or just move to LC if you aren't bound to Laffy, LC isn't that bad. Plenty of housing options.
I've made the drive from LC to Laffy about once a week for the past 10 years. I've never done it in 50 minutes

Just move to Lake Charles. I have been here since November and i don't mind it here, its a nice town. Plus it is going to take you longer than the normal amount of time to get home in the evenings, Traffic from the plants at 5:00 is pretty bad and the bridge is always backed up going eastbound at the end of the day. Throw in a day when there is a wreck either there or on 210 and you just added another hour.

Split the difference and move to Crowley

This makes it even more ridiculous that ya'll are considering Lafayette. Everyone thought you already LIVED in Lafayette.
Move to Lake Charles, or between the two. But for God's sake, why would you take a job in one city and then purposely move an hour away from that job? Doesn't matter how good the money is, making that drive everyday for no other reason than your wife wanting to live in Laffy is just nonsense.
If your wife wants to live in Laffy, get a job in Laffy.

Or live in Scott or Duson near Interstate. Would make commute only 40 min or so

That's not exactly an even split. Might as well live in Laffy at that point.

Lake Charles has come a very long way. Might want to go spend a couple days there and reconsider not moving there

That's still about an hour from Lake Charles.
Welsh is 30 minutes from Lake Charles. Jennings is roughly 40 minutes. Crowley is about 50 minutes.

Tell your wife quit being snobish and selfish. Chicks love to say they live in lafayette. Like it's a big deal.
Look at carlyss and holmwood area if your moving to LC

South Lake Charles is a great place to live. I would move there in a heartbeat, if the jobs were right.

Yea no shite, why in the hell would you put yourself through that kind of commute because your wife wants to live in laffy?
Btw why is she wanting to live in Lafayette? Is she from there? Family there? If it's going to make your life's harder then why do it? Better be a damn good reason or your wife is just being a selfish count and thinking of nobody but herself.
South LC, moss bluff Carlyis areas are nice depending on location of the job. I would suggest south LC if it's a non plant job in LC. South LC is pretty damn nice. Good public schools and good private if you want to go that route.
If you want to live more country life, look east towards Lafayette.

If you are considering working and living in LC you would be doing yourself a HUGE favor by getting out of Lafayette.
I can't stand the traffic around Lafeyette... The traffic in Sulphur/Westlake is getting bad right now with all the construction but Lake Charles is still pretty decent.
Both areas offer almost the same amenities with LC being a little farther from BR but a little closer to Houston for weekend trips.
Lake Charles is excellent for both freshwater and saltwater fishing.
Lafayette gets the nod on hunting opportunities in closer proximity.
If you or your wife have family in Lafayette you could move to the East side of LC (Iowa or Bell City) and be a little closer to Lafayette for visiting.

Allow bigger budget for front end allignments and new tires often. Worse stretch of I10 between Florida and California. Not even joking.

Live in LC. Spending 3 hours every day on a commute is no way to live.
Been doing it almost a year now. I have to drive all day anyways but I have to drive an hour to and hour and a half just to get to my territory. It's a beat down.

Move to LC and don't look back. If you are the breadwinner, the wife and kids will go where the money is made.
Posted on 7/20/17 at 9:37 am to skankhunt_42
Can you work from home 1 day a week? That would certainly help.

What kind of job is it?
