Anybody here do it? Job offer in lake chuck is pretty good, just don't really want to live there. Thoughts?

Split the difference. Move to Jennings or Welsh and participate in the drug trade in those towns.

How many miles is it from your home to work?

I do a 80 mile round trip for my work 5 days a week. I have been doing this for 2 years now.

Live in LC. Spending 3 hours every day on a commute is no way to live.

Seems like it would be ok, about an hour each way. Interstate traffic that moves and at some times very little traffic, early mornings, etc

Can make that drive in 50 minutes one way and no traffic. Not terrible, but probably worth it to look into moving somewhere in between if possible. Or just move to LC if you aren't bound to Laffy, LC isn't that bad. Plenty of housing options.

It would be doable but seems like it would get old pretty fast. If it's a really good offer, just move to LC. I'm partial to Lafayette having lived here most my life, but would definitely move to LC for the right gig.

At my previous job we had 2 Laffy to BR commuters. They hated it. Screw crossing the basin and the Mississippi twice per day

If you don't have a good reason to stay in Lafayette, just move to LC. The town is on an upswing and property values are rising.

Your nice job offer will be offset by the financial and emotional cost of that commute. Don't do it.

Gross.

Used to do this and convinced myself it wasn't that bad. Now It takes me 10 minutes max to get to work. I would kill myself if I had to go back to 40-50 minute commutes.

How long does it take you to get to I-10 from your house? That could be half the battle.

50 minutes is the absolute maximum I would consider.

Quit being a pussy and move out to the country.

We moved back to BR to avoid the traffic. It still takes me 30-35 minutes to drive 5 miles to my house. My commute to work is about 15-20.

Lake Charles is a nice town.

If you like to hunt and fish, it's great.

The two casinos are pretty nice also.

Plant job? What kind of per diem are they talking? Should be enough to get a crappy place to stay in Chuck. If not, the commute to LC isn't that bad. If you have to go to Sulphur or Westlake, I would just get a place there and head back to Lafayette on the weekends.

South LC is decent.....what's your situation? Single? Family? Also have options in Moss Bluff, Westlake, Sulphur.
