Seems like an overcorrection. The guy was incredibly grossly negligent.
I haven’t been following that closely, so anyone who’s more familiar with the case please set me straight- but i thought the truck’s brakes failed(??) That would suggest to me that the trucking company /owner would have more liability than the driver.. also i read that he passed a couple of those ‘out of control truck ramp’ things , but that he was a very young , inexperienced driver who thought he could regain control… seems like an honest mistake, though obviously lives were lost as a result.

I hope your breaks never go out. Because we will all say, well you deserve 110 years.

Good because that is what he did to 4 people and not to mention the families that have to deal with that lose of life.

He passed multiple runaway truck ramps.

I mean, wasn't he at fault and negligent every step of the way?
I mean his brakes went out. Not sure how you can put all the blame on him for that.

Good. That's more in line with what he deserves.
Did the people he hit deserve to die due to his negligence?

Unless your mom and wife are with you.

He stopped and had his brakes inspected before killing people. He knew there were problems.
And he ignored the runoff areas.
He should have been locked away for a long time.

He passed up several opportunities to use a runaway ramp. That's the negligent part we are all talking about.

Did the people that die die due to his negligence, or the break failure on the truck. I would argue it had much more to do with the latter.

Colorado Truck Driver has sentence dropped from 110 to 10 years.
A 30 year sentence effectively ends his life. He likely wouldn't get out of prison at 56
Good.
What about the families that he destroyed?

I'm with you. That's why I'm not sure what the bargaining to commute his sentence to 30 years from 110 was. I guess he does get out with the 30 years. But you have made a person that doesn't belong in society.
Between 30 and 10 is a huge difference.

He drove past the ramp areas. That was a dumb mistake. No going past that.
And unless you can do something to prove that he caused the brakes to fail, I have a hard time placing blame on someone to the point of giving them life in prison for that.

I'm not pulling for any outcome.
To me, minimum sentencing guidelines are there for a reason. To prevent case by case interpretations.

I stated as much in the part of my post that you failed to quote.
Ive never been a truck driver, maybe you have- but im wondering if a very young inexperienced new trucker might try in vain to regain control whilst passing runaway truck ramps ?

I imagine the monetary cost of hitting the ramp and the chance of losing his job were dancing in his head.

Would've cost him $0 to pull into a runaway ramp... or upshift.

It's my understanding he burnt the brakes up miles before and knew it, but kept driving, even after being offered help in adjusting them. So then he topped this hill at max speed for his truck. Which was around 70. So he tries to downshift, and misses the gear, freewheeling up to 85 mph. Then instead of running off the road he tried to ride it out with the truck in neutral and zero brakes. Instead of driving into the median, which was clear, he plowed in to cars stopped for an accident. And then jumped out and ran after the crash.
POS deserves far more than 10 years.

I didn't know this, but sounds like he should have received more charges that would have kept him in jail.
Yep, I'd be at the Governor's door every day if this was my family.
