but it definitely seems like the cops should have been able to resolve that situation without using deadly force.
Clearly. This wasn't a situation of some crazy person with a knife on the street trying suicide by cop or a legit criminal trying to flee and resisting. The cops were in zero point zero percent danger but acted like he had four guns pointing on them about to pull the trigger

WTF was this guy doing? Get out of the car and act normal. Of course the cops way overreacted but don’t give them a reason to overreact.

Look, the dude was clearly off, but he offered to throw his knives out of the window, police tell him there is no need.
He eventually gets killed because he had the knife in his hand.
Yall can defend these cops all you want, but this was fricking stupid. These cops pretty much got impatient.

Cops love to be lazy, they literally could have boxed in the car, ordered pizzas, and sat their asses there bullshitting until the guy calmed down or passed out from exhaustion.

The cops overreacted big time in this situation, which resulted in that man’s death.

Seems like a situation where a call to a tow truck would be more appropriate than calling 911.

So if he is one of the above it is all good to shoot him to death while he sits in his car?
Cops appear to be the most risk averse humans on the planet. If there's a chance it's dangerous, kill it.
I think the dude was way off and had a breakdown, you don't want cops dealing with that. Too many cases where cops are called to suicidal people and the cops end up doing the deed without being in danger.

A foreigner, from a country where cops don't carry guns, being surrounded by cops pointing guns at him, after seeing on the news how US cops are Rambo wannabes, may be extremely fearful for his life and react oddly.

Im not defending the police here since it clearly sounds like they took an innocent situation from 0 to 100 for whatever reason and acted waaaaaay out of line for what the situation called for. But this:
sigh. Do.Not.Do.This.
It doesn't matter if you're in the right. It doesn't matter if you have done nothing wrong and the overzealous police are 100% in the wrong and will be fired tomorrow because of what happenes next. Irrelevant. Don't pick up a weapon. For any reason.

Yep. If there's a mental breakdown and I'm a witness, I'm not calling cops unless someone else is in danger. They're the last people you want to help mentally ill people.

He didn't deserve to die, but I think he was on some drugs for his behavior to be that way. Maybe mental illness and not drugs though
Sad situation

Go to 9 minutes to see them light up a guy sitting in his car that was zero threat to any of them.

Why was he scared to get out?
Because all they hear about are cops shooting innocent people. He was scared to get out because he thought it would get him shot.
He also seemed to be somewhat off mentally. Just a fricked up situation.
If he hadn't said he had "weapons" the cops wouldn't have responded the way they did.
Just really poor communication from EVERYONE involved, and it cost him his life. We'll that and him picking the knife back up like an idiot.
Cops in this country really don't have a clue how to deal with things.

Either methy or mental.

I like how they always keep screaming at their victim after they shoot them and they are unconscious bleeding out.
Posted on 9/14/22 at 10:25 am to Street Hawk
I’m just wondering why he didn’t get out of the car when they told him to. Wouldn’t that have settled things right there?
Posted on 9/14/22 at 10:26 am to BuckyCheese
Nah, don't need to see that. He seems to have/had a mental issue of some sort. Scared to death, didn't know how to communicate without triggering (bad choice I know) heightened response from LEOs. Bad, bad situation for the guy.
