Are you high?
Nope. I have 25 years of experience as an adult probation officer.
I have innumerable experiences of dealing with people with all types of drug use issues and addictions as well as witnessing the effects of the various strategies employed to get people off of drugs.
I can tell you without a doubt that almost every drug user is well aware of the potential penalties, what should be done to avoid detection, how much can be carried to avoid more serious penalties, etc.
Their information is usually outdated or mostly wrong, but they believe it to be true and it influences their decisions. People are easily self-deluded, usually erring on the side of leniency towards themselves.
A reduction in penalties will be received as triumphant news by the drug use crowd and it will become part of the mythos and lore of the drug subculture.

Irrelevant with the "I wanna get high" club here.

Shocker, a guy whose job is dependent on drug users going to jail says legalizing drugs is a bad thing.

Good.
Screw the nanny state.

You serious Clark? Legalizing drugs will INCREASE the Government at every level.

But it isn't.....more and more people will now try these drugs bc they'll only get a fine.....more and more will become addicts and our tax money will be spent on their addictions.
Oh for fricks sake, is that REALLY what you think? Im so tired of this illogical course of thinking. You think little Jimmy will start shooting up heroin now because it’s no longer a felony and now a misdemeanor? “No longer a felony you say, well in that case, pass the needle!”

I see a rapid spike in dangerous drug usage
That’s because youre too dependent on the system and it’s what you want to see. Meanwhile, in places around the world that have not only defelonized but completely decriminalized heroin have seen amazing results. Take Switzerland for example...

Since then, the number of new heroin users in Switzerland has declined. Drug overdose deaths dropped by 64 percent. HIV infections dropped by 84 percent. Home thefts dropped by 98 percent. And the Swiss prosecute 75 percent fewer opioid-related drug cases each year.

Meanwhile Louisiana just voted down reducing criminal penalties for first time simple marijuana possession.

Seattle did this. Seattle is a shithole because of it.

Hopefully one day Seattle will be as nice as New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

But States don't have rights. The civil war decided that federal law cannot be replaced with state law.

saw a show the other day where a paramedic was saying a lot of these junkies are actually getting addicted to Narcan.
Jesus, nobody is getting addicted to Narcan gramps.
That doesnt even make sense. Naloxone does the exact opposite as heroin or other opioids and actually blocks opioid receptors in the brain. I'm sure that's what all the junkies want. Not being able to get high that is.
Think before parroting dumb shite.

I think that if a person gets caught using any drugs, the government should pay for rehab. If you are caught dealing drugs to any extent, you should be executed.
And marijuana and mushrooms should not be considered illegal drugs at all.

So if you sell weed and shrooms, they don’t even bother you.
But if you sell weed, shrooms AND acid, (which is derived from ergot fungus) they should shoot you in the head?
Solid logic there

Sounds like to me his job is trying to keep people out of jail and on the straight and narrow, and he has a pretty good understanding of how hard that is and what actually motivates some of the people who will be most affected by this.
But, what the hell, I'm all for certain states and localities giving this 'hey, let's legalize it all' notion a whirl, and seeing how it plays out. I dig federalism that way.
I'm guessing anyone who thinks it's going to be some sort of panacea or even a slight improvement over what we have now may be woefully naive, but maybe I'm wrong.

Increased fentanyl use should reduce the dopehead population quite effectively.
I have actually proposed free fentanyl to those over 18 as long as they sign a waiver stating no revivals will be given

if everyone went on the straight and narrow right now, the economy would have a short term recession immediately because LEO and judicial system employees would be unemployed.
