Always take the drugs for the colonoscopy. Hopefully it's propofol, that stuff is the bomb. I'm not a fan of the demerol/versed combo, I "woke up" mid-procedure once. Not pleasant.

Feel free to skip them, other than the throat spray, for the gastroscopy.

Take the drugs, go to sleep & it will be a procedure you may forget. Stay awake & it will be a “never again” procedure..

We're delicate here

Listen, if having someone shove a hose up my arse while on meds so I don’t recall it is delicate, then I’m fine with that. Sounds like you prefer to back that thing on up to the hose camera dry. To each their own I guess.

Yes, it's propofol, unless your anesthesiologist is Michael Jackson's anesthesiologist, you should be good. Propofol is a good time, no hangover.

Can anyone compare the effectiveness of this vs a colonoscopy? I am 66 and never done either.

Take the drugs. Prep is 1,000 times worse than the procedure. I'm 42 and had my 1st one last Thursday and it went well, had two polyps removed and was on my way. Ate and took a nap at home and then I fine.

The sedation is mild and is necessary. You will be glad you used it and I doubt that you have a choice. Imagine he has the scope in you and you move suddenly from a shooting pain and all of a sudden he has perforated your colon. You are in deep doo doo then.

Hell no. It's the best night's sleep you'll ever have in your life.

I can see why Jacko had Dr. Murray shooting him up. Relaxing as hell, but too dangerous.

My BIL is an anesthetist and you need only worry about anesthesia when you get to be a true senior. Then it can be a little trickier to get you back out of the ether. So when faced with a choice after 65+ choose a local.

My BIL actually lost his 80 year old father under these exact circumstances when his father went against his advice and trusted his doctor who thought it was no biggie. The tube they stuck down his nose wore a hole in his stomach and he started to bleed which led to another operation which led to a lower blood count and cascaded into his death.

Have you lost your mind? Propofol isn’t a narcotic and you’ll never know what happened.

I’ve been around thousands of these procedures, and I’ve only seen a couple of people try it with no drugs.

If you're asking about the Cologuard test versus a colonoscopy, the Cologuard is subject to false positives / negatives. The colonoscopy is much more definitive. At 66, DWR, GO GET A COLONOSCOPY...it's easy, and could save your life.

And on a secondary note, I posted on this same topic a while back that my brother was offered the option of sedation / no sedation...a poster (I forget which) basically told me I was full of crap and that colonscopies weren't done without it (pun intended).

tbh it's small and very easy to have done without meds or benzos if you aren't a puss.

Just prep at home with a shave and a saline enema.

If you never had anything up there before it feels a little different and maybe uncomfortable but with seeing how many OT suggest meds reminds me how much of the OT are either pusses or insecure about their sexuality. smh

The procedure is really no big deal, it's the drinking of the two gallons of laxative fortified tang and toilet time that sucks and a simple enema takes care of that non-sense.

This dude here. You’re right I have no clue what I’m talking about. For your sake, I hope I never am your anesthetist bc of my lack of knowledge. Still getting paid whether you think I know what I’m doing or not.

Just leaving the hospital for mine. Everything routine. M

The did the lidocaine and propanol routine. No burning. Was out in a less the 8 seconds. Quick recovery. On my way home and feel fine. Opt in for drugs.
