College Tours Utah and Colorado: Pronouns

We took our kid to visit both of these universities recently. During both of the tours, the students leading them would introduce themselves and then go out of their way to say which pronouns they preferred using. Thankfully, all the kids used the pronouns I would have used for them. I didn't have to remember that Bob, while looking and talking like a man, actually preferred to be referred to as her/she.
Is this really where we are today or is this more indicative of the more liberal West?

Some bullshite Director of Diversity and Inclusion probably required everyone to do this lest they be penalized.
If the student leaders were normal, they likely also believe it's bullshite.

I remember the Michigan professor letting every student pick their preferred personal pronouns. One kid made him call him your highness all semester.

If I went on that tour I would purposely refer to them as the opposite of their preference.

ETA: I work at a super liberal, SJW school and even our tour leaders don't do this

I’ve lived in Denver for about 5 years now. No one has ever corrected me or asked me to use a specific pronoun when addressing them.

Those kids likely think it's as dumb as you do. It's probably part of their job description that they have to do it.
Me personally, what you do doesn't bother me and I'll call you whatever you want to be called. Its your life and it makes no difference to me. But if you look like a dude and sound like a dude, I'm calling you a dude until you correct me and you shouldn't get mad at me for assuming.
