When a young Birmingham college student's car broke down the night before he was supposed to start a new job, he didn't panic. At least not for long. Instead, Walter Carr walked. From Homewood to Pelham. All night. In the dark. 20 miles or more.

20 miles is a ridiculous distance to try to walk. Props to this kid on his perseverance. I love reading articles like this.

Although the video at the end of the article with the CEO giving him the new vehicle kind of made me feel uncomfortable with what he doing with his arms and hands

I read that over the weekend. That cat was determined not to miss work.

I kept wondering if he didn’t have one friend who could give him a ride if he gave them a few bucks for gas. Guess not.

The entire story is great.

Young man found a job to help pay for his associates degree which he’s set to graduate from in December...after which he’ll join the Marines.

Car breaks down the night before his first day when he needs to be there around 7am. Says no problem. I’ll go to sleep early and wake up at midnight and walk.

Cops see him at 3am walking along the highway. He’s respectful to their questions and the cops take him to Whataburger for breakfast, then to a church where another cop brings him to the job site.

Owner of startup finds out. And gives his car to Walter.

Literally everyone involved gave their best and now we all get to hear about this young man’s dedication.

This is fricking retarded. There’s so many other options like calling somebody or an Uber. What in the actual frick would compell somebody to do this.

There's a reason Marines eat crayons

Maybe he didn’t have the money for an uber? Maybe he didn’t want to chance their not being one available at 6am?

No sorry. I refuse to accept that there was no other way than walking 20 miles

He could have tried for an Uber or Lyft anytime from 4-6 if that was a problem and it would still be better than walking 20 miles and smelling/looking like shite for your first day of work.

So he didn't actually walk the 20 miles.

I’m sure there was another way. One that may not have been an option available to him. Or one that would have inconvenienced someone else and he didn’t want to rely on another.

You realize he works for a moving/packing company, right? So getting a lyft to drop you off at 4am at someone’s house you don’t know?

And again. That uber ride is $50+ round trip.

I've walked half that just for fun. Some of these fatties need to use their legs before they have to have them amputated.

Poor thing, he probably thinks his days of walking to work are over.
