I can’t do it justice. You have to read it or pull up the FBI press conference. It is easily the worst Higher education corruption scandal in US history. Just overwhelming in scope and organization.
I feel like if they were just straight up and said they want to donate a million dollars for a new engineering building to get their kid into the school, then that should be allowed.
Idk, but that's just me. That new engineering building would benefit tens of thousands of students just to get one dumb kid in.
Or maybe just donate to the schools scholarship fund to get several smart, low-socio economic kids a scholarship to attend. That is worth it. Juice worth the squeeze. Necessary evil.
The faux scholarship thing seems unnecessary.

My dad slipped the USL Dean of Admissions a twenty to make sure I got in.
I got in.

There is no way in hell LSU is involved in this. For once being mediocre paid off

My dad was president of the UVA parent's committee and my uncle was a big donor to UVA and alum.
My brother, sister, and several cousins attended UVA.
I had lunch with the university president before I sent my application in and he sure made it seem like I'd get in.
I didn't even get waitlisted

If it was Southern he probably could have gotten credit for a grad degree plus change.

Not really. I would really have loved for Alleva and/or F. King Alexander to have been caught taking bribes.

21 Million dollars minimum to one guy ( Singer) through a fake charity to get wealthy elite kids into elite schools at the expense of normal kids. Via the most elaborate cheating methods- SAT ACT cheating, fake athletic scholarships to non athletes-photoshopped pics of kids playing sports, fake online personas of said kids playing sports, coaches taking large bribes etc. one parent spent 4,5 million. There will be many more schools and people announced. The scandal is WAY more at the coaching level than the University administration level. 250k-400k was the average bribe. The investigation is ACTIVE. Singer is pleading and squealing.
Basically you pay Singer, he sends you to a clinical psychologist who says you have a learning disability and need extra time on the test. Then he pays a test monitor to look the other way while someone takes the test for your kid or corrects your scores. He then creates a fraudulant resume for your kid who has never been on a soccer team or a crew team. Then he bribes the coach who gives your kid a scholarship. Then your kid quits the team or has an “ injury “. Meanwhile some worth kid is shutout.

Yeah, these people are fricked.

I thought this was just common practice. A wealthy person wants their kid at a particular school, so they make a big donation so their kid can get accepted.
The difference is that in this case, they were paying someone to make false grades and other documents to inflate the kids' resumes. I guess that technically is breaking some federal laws against fraud, perjury, and lying on government forms so these people are getting in trouble.

Can you imagine the ripple effects from this? Little Johnny got screwed out of his soccer scholly and little Annie didn't get into her school because some rich kids' parents bribed the school. This could be absolutely huge. Talk about fraud on a massive scale.

Test fraud and/or laundering donations means federal charges though.
Bribing people to get your kid into school is one thing. Deducting the bribe on your taxes can get you to federal PMITA prison.

Does Aunt Becky's daughter look like she needs a USC degree to move ahead in life?

I just don't understand why they did it this way.
Most private universities have development offices for high net worth prospective families so you can unofficially find out what needs to happen so you can bribe your way in the classy and legal way.
They didn't need to pay some dickhead half a million to take the SAT for them.

Probably paying for access to get the right MRS degree.

There is probably a point where scores/grades/resume are so bad that no legit donation is large enough to cover the blemishes.
