What is the appropriate way to handle two opinionated collages that are texting each other in high level meetings?

Do you think this is disrespectful to the group and the person running the meeting?

Walk up to each and take the phone out of their hands and throw it against the wall.

Thats the way an alpha would do it.

A beta would come to the OT and ask for others opinions.

I see people on their phones at meetings a lot. However, sometimes they are looking up an email related to the meeting or calculating something related... you can't assume they are texting.

I don't bring my phone in to meetings and yesterday as I was speaking I noticed three texting or reading and I just stopped talking. They realized it and stopped. And when meeting was over their boss ripped their arse.

If I would have heard the words with friends ding I would have walked out.

I'd usually agree. However, sometimes managers schedule so many unproductive meetings that it's almost rude to make their subordinates sit and listen to their bullshite for hours.

I've been in several meetings where a question came up, someone texted for an answer, got it, and presented it.

And I've personally been in some where I texted someone on my team hoping for an answer and didn't get it. That could have looked like I was randomly texting the secretary I was banging.

OTOH, for all you know said colleague was daytrading.

So keep an open mind.

Pretty much. Usually if a meeting has some content that applies to my position or is engaging, I won't even look at my phone. Other times if it wasn't for my phone, I'd probably have nodded off in the meeting. Some people can be rude as frick, but if the majority of the people you're speaking to is browsing their phones during the meeting then the problem might not be them.

I've seen teachers kick people out of classes for doing the same thing. You shouldn't have to correct people in a professional setting. They wouldn't get invited into the next meeting if it were me

I borderline refuse to go to meetings in person. I only call in, mute my line and do my normal work until something comes up that I need to address.

Most meetings are painful.

If that's all I had to do to get uninvited to meetings I'd be on my phone nonstop

Typically if I'm on my phone in a meeting I'm checking emails related to work, because the current topic isn't relevant to me.

I don't get the issue with people using their phones in a meeting. I don't care if someone is on theirs while I'm talking. If I'm in a one on one mtg, I'll ask if they mind if I check something quickly. But at a conference room table. Don't really care.

Ask them what's so important that they cannot focus on the meeting, ask them what their thoughts are to make them look uninformed as well.
