I would say the same thing to you. You don’t know anything about tailoring at all. It’s also clear that you don’t know about about different styles of suits (e.g.m English tailoring vs Italian (I won’t even go down the Milan, vs, Naples, vs. Rome as you’re clearly not ready for that)).

I guess it’s my age but on the rare occurrences I have to wear a suit, I wear a shirt with a buttton down collar.

I say you should go for the 'Guido' look.

What’s wrong with Joseph A Banks? It’s like garanimals for middle aged men. It’s all I wear.

Oh, you must be talking about the difference between say, a Brioni shoulder vs. an Isaia/Kiton shoulder. You're right, I don't know anything about either of them. They definitely don't have my pattern on file, created when I visited their production facilities.

Was hoping to learn about some good collar stays opening this thread

If you know, you know...

Here’s what you need to know about collar stays: keep the ones that come with your shirt and use them with that shirt. Stays come in different lengths, widths, and stiffnesses (if that’s a word), because shirt collars come in different lengths, shapes and stiffnesses. Not all stays will fit your shirt. Generally the ones that come with the shirt are the best for that shirt because they will be the right length and stiffness for that collar. If you have a soft collar, one that’s flexible and doesn’t have a stiff lining (or any lining), using a rigid collar stay will look odd and unnatural. You can buy metal stays but they will look odd on a softer collar. Some shirt makers will make stiff collars that don’t need stays but I haven’t seen that very often and most high end shirt makers, including bespoke shirt makers, will use collar stays.
That’s it.
That’s it.

I ordered a variety pack of metal ones years ago and still haven’t run out.

Just take them out when you take the shirt off, not hard.
Plastic collar stays are bullshite, but less trashy than the losers that don't realize they need them. And permanent collar stays... arent.

Weird thing to hate, but OK.

The history of Fashion can be fascinating at times.
I once went down the rabbit hole on the history of ties. They were initially used to close the collar simply because buttons weren't in use then. The ties were short strings for practical purposes. They eventually became more elaborate & frilly over time, whether they were accordian-like neck-fans, or flowing ribbons, or scarf-like knots/ascots, to cowboy/Col. Sanders-like bolos, to bow-ties, etc...and unnecessarily remained in use, even after buttons became a shirt staple.
The traditional men's neck-tie evolved from the bow-tie and kept getting longer & longer as men kept trying to out-do each other & peacock for the ladies. Now, whenever I see a business man or politician in a suit & neck-tie, I'm reminded they unknowingly chose a fashion style that evolved from a freudian dick-measuring contest.

Back when I had to wear a suit and tie 4 days a week, I would lose every collar stay. They’d go to wherever the mismatched socks were hiding out.
Lots of paperclips in shirts.
I don’t miss playing dress-up for coworkers.

I am 40 years old and this is the first time in my life I have ever heard of a collar stay. Is this what this board is coming to?
Bunch of metros in here.

Collar stays are somehow “metro” in your eyes?

The metal ones are the way to go... Until one accidentally finds its way into the dryer.
