One of the comments.....

I would much rather have him released into the wild to roam free, with the chance to adapt to being free instead of living and dying in a cage. Just doesn’t same [sic] right to me

ETA: I'm pointing out how clueless these people are. What "wild"? Where does this person imagine it is safe for a tiger to "roam free"?

That’s basically the same as saying “I want to kill all captive tigers but do it in an exotic way”

Social media allows the misfits a platform from which they believe they can dictate policy for all.

I love the let it roam free comments when it has been proven Tigers live longer in captivity. Not to mention this tiger has the best vet care around, best food available, plenty of space, has never been "wild" and will get whatever it needs to survive.

As long as some dumbass is keeping a live tiger in a house somewhere, LSU should have a Mike.

Those tigers escape or the owner is shady, does shady shite, and gets arrested. The tiger is not going to released into the wild with any success, so why kill it? Let it spends its days in an enclosure that is probably 1000% better than it left.

frick you Carol Baskin.

We don’t breed him. We don’t have him living in a cage with other Tigers. We didn't take him from the wild. I don’t understand what people are mad about. If he didn’t live in the habitat that we have, where would he live? Our habitat is significantly nicer than 90% of the zoos in America.

That article makes it sound like he just lives in a 5x5 cage.

Exactly. He'd be shot within a couple weeks. He would seek out people for food. People have fed him his whole life, and when they did not feed him he'd probably finally kill somebody or some animals.

Side note. Mike is not the tiger that was in the Houston area about 3 years ago or so (Conroe area I think)? The poor guy who actually found and caught the tiger had to shite his pants. If I recall correctly it was still a juvenile aged tiger. It ran up to him walking in his neighborhood, and raised up on the guys shoulders. At some point he realized it was playing and had a collar/chain. Had to be a long few seconds of knowing you were dead before he realized it was playing with him like a house cat going for your shoelaces.

A school has a live mascot in a cage? Gross let that animal live where it was intended to live.

Are these idiots that dumb that they don’t understand the animal was born in captivity? It would likely not survive in the wild

Further, they are going fricking extinct in the wild. If all of them had their wishes there would be no more tigers.

The hell we are. Where would they rather Mike be? At LSU being taken care by veterinarians? Or at some tiger rescue ran by insane meth heads?

With Tusk, you guys could find out where the local animal rights leader lives and let him root up his front yard at night. Sadly, Mike is a little harder to move around.

This is the problem with the Internet. People comment on the headlines which means most of the time they have no clue what they're actually talking about.

I guess the "cage" in the tweeted picture does look small and confining.

It's a little harder to get outraged about his actual "cage".
