Which is just another reason why all 18-20 yr olds who don't go to college or trade school after HS should have to serve in the US Military to LEARN personal discipline.
They'd learn how to take care of themselves.
They'd have an opportunity to stay in the military as a career.
They'd learn they aren't cut out for military life & a fire would be lit under their asses to go to trade school or college.
They would be off of the streets & out of the "clubs" on a regular basis until they're closer to 21.
Don't respond with your BS "that's communism/too much government/whatever else you're going to cry about". It's attitude like that that's led us to this point where we need this reset for a generation or 2.

I watch an episode of Hoarders for my inspiration to clean.

Comes from however your parents raised you.
I went to school with a guy whose parents’ house was always filthy. When he bought his own house it was the same.
Yes and no. I'm gonna be transparent here.
I grew up in a filthy, absolutely disgusting house. I'm talking having memories of playing "hide and seek" and hiding under a large pile months-old dirty clothes, dogs tearing up trash all over the house and just leaving it, dishes liked up for weeks on end kind of filth. Squalor. To cope with it you develop blinders. You just don't see small messes. You don't even see big messes after a while. On too of this, my maternal grandmother is a straight hoarder. Could be on the show. I am very well-versed in living in filth.
I made a conscious decision to not live like that in my early 20s. I'm by no means a clean freak or anything, but after living that way for my entire childhood I no longer wanted that.
I still have those blinders, though. I will frequently just not even pay any attention to small messes, to the point that I just don't even see them or acknowledge them. Drives my wife crazy. I have to actively look and purposefully pay attention. To get around it I've developed habits to build in the "search for things to clean" into my routines so that I keep up with things.

Is this phenomenon getting worse?

you fall in to one of the common denominator categories I listed earlier. Which one? Fat, lazy, poor, slob?

There was one on this morning where they removed so much stuff that joists and beams and shite started giving way. The hoard was basically all that was keeping the house up.

Growing up I was all of those things.
Now I'm not a slob and not poor. Still fat, though I've lost a lot of weight. Still somewhat lazy, but no more than your average person I'd say.
We have someone deep clean our house twice a month and we generally clean every day.

Does this include women? College aged women are the nastiest of all and it isn't even close.

We aren't necessarily clean freaks or slobs but somewhere in the middle. The wife does freak out when we are having company and frantically makes the house much cleaner than it ever is otherwise.
Right now, we've got the 2 "kids" and 3 damn animals so it's a pain in the arse to keep it clean.

I grew up in a stable home with a stay-at-home mom in the 50s and 60s. House was always neat and clean plus mom had a black cleaning lady come into help every week.
So I had a good example, plus a stint in the Marines reinforced the clean, responsible ethic. Taught my three girls the same but it never really took root with them. They aren’t dirty but they are messy.
Meanwhile, I am now the kitchen, dishes and outdoor boss. My wife keeps up the rest of the house and laundry chores. She has a Honduran hottie (no pics of either) come in monthly to do deep cleaning.

Not just homes, vehicles too.

How much did your mom pay the cleaning lady?

Look at footage of college civil rights and war protests from the 60s. People literally wore suits.
