Every elementary school dance in South Louisiana in the 90s the DJ had ‘strokin’ queued up at the minimums of 2 times.

After listening to the commentary as an adult, our childhoods were unusual

A bunch of us would go play pool at Grits and someone would always play Strokin... When it would get to the part we would yell out "OH shite"... Damn that was 37 years ago...

Saw him and Bobby Blue Bland in Bastrop, LA in the early 90s. Only knew Strokin’ at the time and didn’t like it. but was blown away by all his other songs. Guy was incredible. Snatching It Back was one of my favorites. He’s discussed in the Muscle Shoals documentary which is totally worth watching if you haven’t seen.

When I went to his show in vinton, La in around 1990 I didn’t think he’d survive the night. It was like he was having a massive stroke. Legit impressed he made it this long.

Every day I had to work the fields
Cause the only way we got our meals
I was the oldest of the family
And everybody else depended on me
Every night I heard my mama pray
Lord give him strength to make another day

Because someone mentioned they went to one of his concerts only knowing his song strokin and left away impressed.. I listened to some of his other music and strokin is definitely his most "edgy". His music is a mix of blues and rock n roll.

That's all I wanted to say.
