Clearly the fault of the contractor.

Site utility contractor set his catch basin at one elevation.

Site grading/paving contractor then set his grade likely based on civil drawings, and his grade did not match site utility contractors grade. but he just slopped his finished work up the the catch basin elevation.

issue I have i no one said anything and just moved on.....

looks shopped

Anyone from New Orleans knows that not only is it not shopped, it's so common we barely look twice.

My son just graduated as a C.E. in May and has only worked for 3 months here in N.O. He's already seen several "new" projects with crap like this happening.

There's all kinds of things that can happen on a construction site. We would usually set a benchmark on the north bonnet bolt of a fire hydrant since that elevation should theoretically never change. We had a crew set it on the top of the fire hydrant and not really specify it to the contractor. So the contractor assumed bonnet bolt, making everything on that site half a foot too low (think that's how it translated).

Then we'd see curb guys who would read the grade to the top of the back of curb when the grades on the stakes were clearly labled to the edge of pavement.

Nola fights 3 sides of this. extreme settlement issues, Corrupt politicians, boards, and construction firms and just straight nepotism.

So what's the problem? Client wanted it to be dry around the drain. Problem solved. Think of it as an overflow flood prevention setup

It makes me think the contractor is gonna try to get a change order through to get paid to fix their frick up.

So he gets twice+ the fee and tries to blame the engineer. If only I had a dollar for everytime...

I love when parking lots are essentially retention ponds.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't drawn up this way.

yea but the base and sub base layers drawn could have been constructed right and were unsatisfactory. It would be the civils and geotechs fault if that was the case.

There's a local engineer here that's been doing it forever and he will turn in hand drawn plans and get them approved.

In 30 years at my job I've seen drawings issued for project construction to start with things like this not correct. Most of the time the civil contractor points it out and it gets fixed before moving on. It's not always the contractors fault, lots of engineers are dumbasses too.

Work with a set of DOTD drawings......so many grade and cross section busts that the contractors usually devote a full time engineer to catch these issues upstream....
