why didn't you want to compare Woodlawn, or Tara to Dutchtown? those are true publics, like Dutchtown...

Right. Compare Woodlawn Elementary to Spanish Lake primary and Woodlawn hs to Dutchtown. Not even close. Rag,come on man!

No .. You are not following me .. I am telling you that the Great Scholars program at a Woodlawn High and the other public high schools in EBRP is the same program as that at BRHS .. and .. if your kid academically qualifies for the program .. they are in it at Woodlawn .. In the end, I am not knocking Dutchtown HS .. I am trying to open your eyes beyond broad brushing the entire EBRP school system ..

your comparison is utterly fricking stupid... i figured you were better than this...
eta: and i'm pretty sure my kid would qualify just fine, seeing as both her parents are pharmacist, so there's at least some intellect genes that should may have gotten, but still, i'd rather be able to just send her to public without having to "qualify" for it.... because if in EBR and you don't "qualify" you HAVE to go private... no question about it...

What scores, exactly .. Mike ? No, you can't compare the entire Woodlawn HS score vs. Dutchtown .. that is obvious .. my point is there is a program and programs in this parish where your kids can get a quality education .. I would compare the Great Scholars and Gifted group's ACT scores with Dutchtown any day of the week, though .. absolutely ..

Ohhh I see what you saying. Yes. When I was at Woodlawn we had those advanced classes as well. They call it differently now. I agree but the problem is what I faced in my day and worse now.
I would get out my calculus class and computer science class at Woodlawn and be right in mix with kids who had no intentions nor ability to make it to college. It's a scary proposition to throw my nerdy kids there. I was one weekend away from ruining it all.
My elementary school was worse. Buchanan Elementary took all the smart kids from ebr and bussed us to the hood for Excellent education in 4th and 5th grade. But next class over were kids who had no family at home and older siblings already in jail. We didn't know what jail was except from Andy Griffith.

Agree. I got into brhs from McKinley middle but chose Woodlawn for football. You're always gonna have the outliers.

You now have the Gifted & Talented program AND the Great Scholars program .. These courses have their own hallways and section in the school .. the teachers have master's degrees and master's plus 40 degrees .. i.e. your kid is being taught by a more academically qualified teacher ..
