Baton Rouge is really not one big mess .. It certainly has a lot of little messes, but depending on where you live, there's nothing wrong with BR ..

I always wonder about them residents on Bienville Court. Most are pretty damned well-off and 200-400 ft from BR.

yep, but with the luxury of being able to send my kid to public school...
i'm not saying AP is the cream of the crop or whatever, especially the whole parish in that context, but in terms of where i personally will be, i think it's a great location...

That's pretty indisputable by quantitative measures. And the 2nd best burb to live ranking didn't hurt either. I wouldn't wanna slang pizza in any other part of the metro area.

as far as I'm concerned, i think living where i'm gonna be living, i get the best of both worlds... convenience of BR, schools of AP....

I'll admit I'm in my own BR bubble. When youre a young professional that lives in the Mid-City area, and has a non-interstate commute I don't deal with the "problems".
I've got ample shopping, dining, and entertainment options within 10 min of my house.

How are the AP public schools doing?
My kids are in EBR private; I'm pro st George but wouldn't use public

Exactly. Multiple messes. There are different problems arising from the different cities getting lumped together with the EBR dumpster fire.
You have north Baton Rouge, with its 9th ward lite problems. Then you have the ”what type of divorce settlement would make you forget my number " folks in Shenandoah. Then you have the mid city folks living in denial of both because "life is good as long as you have city pork and a curly moustache, right?"

so will i, but my commute may be 5 to 10 minutes longer... but the schools were the primary factor, as we have a child with a 2nd one on the way....

I'm all for sending kids to public schools .. You're paying a pretty penny in taxes to do it, you might as well use it .. if you go K thru 12 in private schools, with inflation, you are forking over $5K to $10K a year .. or upwards of $100K+ total .. But, eventually, ridiculous property taxes in AP will eventually more than negate all of that .. here's hoping your kid is out by then ..

so pretty much every city in America has those same issues
