There's still plenty of cabs in N.O. A study came out recently that said Uber has had a negligible effect on the number of cab rides annually, but that Uber rides have gone up almost exponentially.
In other words, there's basically nothing for anyone to bitch about here. It seems to be essentially a win-win
The only instances in Houston where Uber and Cabbies have had beef is at the airport. I was charged $23 for an Uber ride and $65 in a cab.

I can count on both hands how many times I've used a taxi before and I've never had a problem. I don't use them all the time to have complaints like most in here seem to. But I can honestly say the few times I've used a taxi I had no issues. The 2 Uber rides I took were a lot more enjoyable

Also several nights where they refused cab accounts or credit cards.
Wife has had one for a long time. I slowly realized how useless they are unless you outsmart the cab drivers. We used to call for a cab to go home and those that did show up would say they werent there to pick up an account, our cab was on the way, etc. Even was getting the cab # from dispatch after 1 night where 4-5 drivers turned us down.
So from now on I dont mention the cab account at all. Not to the dispatch or to the cabbie when he picks us up. Just get in that bitch and tell him when you are almost to your destination and he cannot refuse the account.

Heck yeah that's what I want to hear, I use Uber every chance I can

around for people to use before Uber got started?
In case you haven't noticed. It's way way easier to schedule an Uber pickup than finding a taxi that will actually take you where u want to go.
I would have a nice chunk of cash if I had a $1 for every time a NO cabbie wouldn't take me to Metry.
Hell I take an uber now just to meet buddies at a nearby bar for a couple drinks in the early evening. It's extremely easy and cheap plus it removes any and all chance of a DUI.

I was using my friends who is a local and that is what we would do.

Seems like a lot of hassle for a more expensive ride

The market doesn’t lie. If people were satisfied with cabs, Uber wouldn’t be growing in popularity so rapidly.
People can give anecdotal evidence about how cabs are better all they want (which is baffling), but you cannot deny the growth statistics proving a demand for a better transportation product.

St Louis was miserable for cabs. Several times we've called one and had no one show up. Never had an issue with Uber. It's been great for us going to beer festivals because we know we have a ride and can relax and have fun.

hotel to the dome/arena, or dome/arena to hotel...times are dependent on game time/concerts
Finding a cab from Uptown to Downtown was a pain in the arse, with Uber I have someone at my front door in usually 5 minutes or less.

I wonder if back in the day, the horse drawn carriage industry was pissed off about the invention of cabs?

Our economy can't sustain this for much longer. While you all are celebrating your lack of DUI's, there's real families out there hurting. Cops, lawyers, judges, probation officers, these are all real people who can't do their jobs if people keep cheating the system by using alternative transportation.
We need our DWI industry in this country.
This is your greatest post ever

I'd like to see that number for cities with an inadequate mass transit system. (Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, etc.)

I don't know of anyone who said cabs were better, I just stated I never had a problem getting a cab
as I stated earlier I used Uber twice and they were more enjoyable than a cab

Ya, see this isn't what people are bitching about.
If you live here and live Uptown or Midcity, you are routinely ignored. Ie they ask where you are going before you get in so they can drive off. We had to adapt by just hopping in and putting them on the spot. This results in the credit card machine broken and if that won't work, refusal to drive at all.
On big event days, obviously there is a supply issue but the above problem grows exponentially, and I'm surprised it doesn't turn physical with how much of a fricking a-hole they are about it.
No offense, but if you don't live here you have no idea how bad their service was and all the things they would do to avoid giving you a ride home.
Never again if I can help it.

I hardly ever have a need for a Taxi but I was in Dallas recently for a concert and called a cab service late to take us back to our hotel.
The driver was scary, looked like a terrorist, screamed on the phone, didn't talk in the cab, drove like a maniac and had something on the radio in a middle eastern language.
I don't know if the guy was pissed because he was the driver in our area that was dispatched or what...but he was angry.
We were happy to just get out of the cab. I'm using Uber next time I need a ride.

In an admittedly tiny sample size.
