Cities with Uber have shown a 10% drop in DUIs

We estimate the entrance of Uber into Seattle caused DUI arrests to decrease by 10%. The results are statistically significant based upon the data. The graph below describes the “Uber effect” relative to average DUI/DWIs. We also measured the impact of marijuana legalization, which seems to have increased drunk driving

By this approach, Uber is responsible for approximately -.7 DUIs per day, or more than a 10% reduction overall. However, this approach is inherently weakened by the fact that many things could have caused DUI to go down around the time when Uber entered. In order to test the robustness of this estimate, we use San Francisco as a control city in a “differences-in-differences” framework. The result is consistent:

Uber is the best app ever created and INEC

Our economy can't sustain this for much longer. While you all are celebrating your lack of DUI's, there's real families out there hurting. Cops, lawyers, judges, probation officers, these are all real people who can't do their jobs if people keep cheating the system by using alternative transportation.
We need our DWI industry in this country.

In a lot of places and situations they certainly were not nearly as easy/efficient.

Taxis aren't as easy to get, nor are they as reliable as Uber. Plus I've never sat in an uber car that smelled like BO.

I have never seen a taxi in mecca but the good Baptist up here don't really drink

Pains in the arse. Where are they? What's their number? Is that my taxi? shite I don't have cash and their credit card machine has to be reset!

Damn, hopefully those cities increase the cost of a dwi to meet the decreased demand. I know many law enforcement families are hurting this time of year, with the wife wanting that new Hyundai and all

Where I live it takes at least 45 minutes to get a taxi (if they show up at all)
It takes less than 10 for an uber ride to show up and it's cheaper

For the most part, no, not for surrounding cities of Baton Rouge. When you could get through to the cab company, the timing was very unreliable and the cabs would keep people waiting for hours. Uber fills a huge need in places like Baton Rouge and many other cities where cabs are not readily available/unreliable for those of us who do not ever want to drive after drinking.

I'm surprised the decrease isn't more tbh

Imagine that, a service that actually gives people rides has a more positive effect on decreasing DUI's than setting up checkpoints.
Maybe, rather than posting up 20+ troopers and Sheriffs at one spot all night, waiting to catch people frick up, they could give people rides to help them actually get home safe. It could be called Uber Blue.

I used cabs all the time in Baton Rouge and never had a problem before uber came and shut them down

They should have prepared and saved accordingly in preparation of Uber being awesome.
