Christmas is a bad time to work retail - the trash is out in force

SO works retail at a nice store (e.g. not Walmart). This time of year the hours are long and there is a shortfall in seasonal employees. The trash comes out and I wouldn't have the patience to deal with it.

Some woman is pissed off because the store is "too hot." It wasn't hot, but the AC wasn't cooling the store down to a normal level. Trashy white woman walks up to my SO and says "I'm sweating this store is so hot, frick you and frick (name of store." SO handles it with a polite and apologetic response (should have gone Popeye's on her).

Later, a trashier white woman is berating a black seasonal employee, referring to the young man as "boy" and otherwise talking a bunch of shite (for lack of a better word). The customer was mad over a pricing issue. SO intervenes, settles the situation down, shows the customer why the customer was wrong, and points out how the customer's treatment of the employee was inappropriate (no apology to the young man, of course).

Customers leave dirty diapers on displays, litter inside the store, let their rugrats wildly roam around the store, trash displays, etc.

Our society is getting trashier.
