Just look at the type of guys that ended up on TCAP, a majority of them (like 99.99%) would not appeal to some 12 year old girl. It makes no sense.

You do realize that the vast majority of them had already succeeded in having sex with an underage kid. It wasn’t their first time when they were caught.

Save me the entrapment b.s. these idiots getting caught should get their dicks cut off. And I mean that literally. We need harsher penalties in this country.

Was the kid attracted to them or did the kid seek them out through the internet? Context matters because a majority of molestation cases are not from strangers but from people close to the victim like family or friends or individuals who have regular access to the victims.

No one should be penalized for hypothetical scenarios that are completely ridiculous and improbable. That has nothing to do with the quality of these people or the fact that they have predator tendencies.

They are propositioning and intending to perform a crime knowing it is a crime. They are going to meet someone they think is a minor. They sent explicit messages to someone they thought was a minor. Often times they sent explicit images to someone they thought was a minor. There was nothing hypothetical about their intent.

There was no minor and you cannot prove this opportunity would exist in reality.

They're sold a fantasy scenario that would never exist.

Eta: There's a reason most of the TCAP folks got out of their case based on entrapment and there's a reason entrapment exists.

Then every judge who dismissed their cases are pedophiles?

Because this is the argument that got many cases dropped.

There are plenty of other situations where entrapment plays a role, like in drug busts or prostitution cases.

This doesn't take away from the abhorrent and disturbing behavior from the individuals within the show.

Several of them needed zero coercion to agree to meet with the "minor".

yahoo and aim chat era

I frequented the Yahoo Chat rooms back in 2001-2003 before Dateline did their operations and there were a ton of 13-15 year olds in those rooms that were designated 18+. I'm assuming it was police testing the waters.

I've known one of the guys that recently got busted for 20 years.

Same as everyone else, never would've imagined he'd be doing this.
He has a good-looking fiancé, has always had lots of women after him when we were younger and a son. Hès also a business owner in Springfield.

So far, it's been very hush hush in the community about his arrest.

'Mens rea'. IDGAF what their lawyers argued or what some judge who doesn't want their own skeletons out of their closet argue. Everything they did was with the intent of committing a crime against a minor.

Your argument of "Guys yes they thought they told a minor the things they would do to them, yes they thought they sent explicit images to a minor, yes they showed up with drugs/alcohol and condoms with the intent to commit multiple felonies, but the person was over 18 so they couldn't. The minor they thought they were grooming and were about to drug and rape didn't exist, so just let them off." GFC. That's the argument of a pedophile or an enabler, neither of which has a place in modern civilization.

what the frick does it matter? when you're 40-50 years old and trying to have sex with a minor, you're a piece of shite who should get his dick cut off.

This show is almost every single time a stranger trying to work his game on a minor he's never met before.

So you're sayign we should expect to see you on this show in the future? Everyone shoudl be penalized that chats with a minor about having sex with them, then shows up at their house to have sex with. Doesn't matter if it's a sting or not. The fact that they went through with it is all you need to know.

I can't believe someone would say what you just said. Either you're a predator, or you have a close family member that is/was one and you're tryign to justify what they have done b/c you still see them as a good person.

Let’s be honest… he could do his whole show for the next 10 years just floating between LP, Tangi, and St. Tammany.

I have no idea why this is true, but it definitely seems to be.

They have had issues with this kind of stuff in the past. Some of the stories are very disturbing - including the one with that deputy a few years ago and his teacher wife.

Except that it literally happens and many of the people caught admit to having done it before.

White knighting for pedos is a bizarre stance to take dude.

Two words: role playing chat room dude

wait...is your argument that they shouldn't be penalized because they were too dumb to realize that a 14 year old girl shouldn't be interested in sex with a fat 45 year old?

No, I'm saying in some cases they are being coerced to commit a "crime" they would have otherwise never committed.

Several judges came to the same conclusion.

This doesn't take away from the shocking nature of the interactions.
