China’s greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 exceeded for the first time those of the US and other developed nations combined, according to a report published Thursday by an energy consulting group.

China’s 27 percent share of emissions surpassed the combined output of the US — the world’s second-largest greenhouse gas emitter at 11 percent — as well as all 27 European Union member states and India, which has the world’s third highest emissions rate at 6.6 percent, Rhodium Group’s analysis showed.

China, India and other developing nations have balked at efforts to reduce global emission rates, arguing that richer developed nations like the US and the EU should take action before them and help them foot the bill for the costs.

Chinese President Xi Jinping participated in President Biden’s virtual climate summit last month at the White House and said his country would reach peak emissions by 2030 and net zero emissions by mid-centrury.

Look at the brown air in the picture. That's some nasty shite.

Other than Donora, PA....was any part of the US ever that bad? Maybe Pittsburgh in 1965? Or Los Angeles in the 1970s?

it's more important for liberal people and politicians to show that they are doing the "right" thing than for the "right" thing to actually be "right"

Why are they considered a developing country? They have the second largest GDP? Also, who cares which country pollution comes from? Pollution is pollution right? So let’s stop the biggest polluters

Is there a tax we can levy on the American people to help lower those emissions?

Then they will stop production and all of your goods can no longer be made. The double standard for China are never ending!

Yes. Taxes and poverty solve all problems.

This environmental racism is an existential threat to people of color, latinx, LBGTQ+, indigenous peoples, and transgendered people. China is racist.

This is why the Paris Accord is such bullshite . The US has to handicap itself while other countries' economies greatly benefit from it

It is hilarious that Progressives want to shut down US production in the name of the environment only to give it to China and other polluters. It is like having a peeing and non-peeing section of a swimming pool.

We should pay them a few hundred million a year in the hope that they’ll change their ways. No commitment from them, just throw money at them. We can call it the Paris Accords. And we’ll handcuff our industries at the same time to show them the way.
