China knew ignoring the live animal trade for political purposes could result in the type of transmission that most experts believe was the source of Covid-19. The Pangolin was the likely source in this case. Even though it was a protected species in China, folks knew you just go to the back of a market and a live one could be had. This article was three years old.
We must sanction China along with the rest of the world with severe travel and trade restrictions unless they show they are serious about stopping this trade.

I'd be down but this will never happen bc they are too big a part of the world economy at this point.

I love when everyday morons try to pretend like they are foreign policy savant.

I agree, it's the only way to get counties and people to react and change. However, the impact on our own economy and the world's economy would be too great for any drastic sanctions

We should just put tariffs on all Chinese products as a punitive damage...

We're going to sanction the entire planet?

How do you plan on going about implementing and enforcing said sanctions?

What dumb comments some have made. I did not pretend to be an expert. I also did not say this would happen. Sadly, I doubt it would due to the economic realities others have mentioned. It would take unlikley worldwide agreement rather than just the United States to get China to move quickly. But, if the world did the right thing and made such threats China would not have to spend much to correct this issue in comparison to what they could lose. I admit that the problem is that the threat would have to be enough to make it happen because if it did not we hurt our economy.

Kind of ironic that Chinese traditional "medicine" will be responsible for killing more people in 1 year than it has saved in 5000.

Yeah, because production would be kept in a place that's more expensive than others.

Corn farner.. There was a kid I went to HS with that we called corn farmer. Dude was nasty as hell and one day you could see wax in one of his ears and somebody told him he looked like he had a corn kernel stuck in his ear. And that turned into everyone calling him corn farmer from that point on...

Tariffs started the move out of China. This will accelerate it. Companies are going to have to think of the cost of this when considering China as a partner.

Additional sanctions on China would hurt the American consumer worse than it will hurt China.

Read up on zoonosis. Live animal trade is a dangerous and pointless practice.

The world is sufficiently impacted by their lack of cleanliness and regulation of wet markets.
Sanctions are a massive overreaction. However, if countries started restricting travel to the parts of China that are hot spots during cold/flu season or until Coronavirus is curtailed, that will pressure them to clean up. They are embarrassed now and will probably capitulate.

We can start holding them accountable by calling the virus by its proper name, the Wuhan Virus
