China will release 10,000 metric tons of pork from its central reserves this week in a bid to stabilize soaring pork prices and cope with a swine fever crisis that has wiped out roughly one third of its pigs.

That’s actually a very big deal. Pork is the backbone of their protein use.

They need to import as much pork as possible to fill this void and a huge percentage of that will have to come from the US.

I predict a trade deal is struck in October. There are a lot of reasons why next month makes a lot of sense for the Chinese to make a deal

Ramping up the importing of felines and dogs as well. Soylent Green is next. Old Chinese people are kinda tough and stringy though.

Funny thing is one of the largest US pork producers (Smithfield) is wholly owned by the Chinese yet they can't simply take that pork out of the US back to China after processing.

The ASF is a big deal in the global protein markets, I keep waiting to see a movement in the cattle markets recognizing the global shortage of pork being created by ASF in China. Problem is beef is such a small part of the Chinese diet they need to "learn" to eat beef...
