China imposes NEW coronavirus lockdown as fears grow for devastating second wave

A FRESH coronvirus outbreak in China's Henan province has raised fears of a devastating second COVID-19 wave - despite the ruling Chinese Communist Party's attempts to claim the country is winning the battle against the disease.

A fresh cluster of cases has been reported among medical staff at Jia County People's Hospital, where one of them had just spent 14 days in quarantine after returning from Wuhan in neighbouring Hubei province, where the disease first emerged at the end of last year. As a result, country authorities have imposed travel restrictions, with non-essential travel banned between villages and communities. Anyone coming in and out of residential compounds is required to wear a facemask, have their temperature taken and produce a certificate to prove they are healthy, according to an official document leaked to Radio Free Asia.
Businesses are closed except for supermarkets and farmers' markets, with 600,000 people effectively living under curfew, according to the country government's Weibo account.
One resident said: "Everything's locked down. It just started.
"All households are locked down. Nobody can go into town, or if you do, you won't be able to leave again."

What fear mongering article title. Makes it sound like this is some crazy new mutation or some new thing the virus is doing.
When in fact they’re just taking draconian measures anytime there’s a hint of a cluster to stop it from getting bad again. Which is basically what everyone will have to do until there’s a cure or vaccine

I think that's part of it, but the press is also starving for a big, long-running crisis after years of bleeding. I've also never heard of this rag and considering it only has a circulation of 300k it's not really any wonder.

You disagree? That’s how you open everything back up after the initial shutdown.
For example, open back up the whole US in June. In July there’s an outbreak of like 30 cases in Phoenix. Don’t shut down the rest of the country but don’t just ignore it until it spreads everywhere again. Immediately shut down travel to Phoenix and do contact tracing so it doesn’t go further.
