Change Muslims to Christians, pork to dog, and alcohol to prepubescent male urine and there'd be more outrage.

OP didn't post a link so here is one I found.
Far western China has always had some unrest since the expansion and occupation in the 1950's. Tibet and Uighur populations in particular. It doesn't really have anything to do with religion, it's that local populations don't like living under Chinese rule and never have. Hence "re-education" programs.
You have to be pretty dumb to think that a Muslim is just going to melt in the presence of pork and/or alcohol.
