Ahh...the weekly Rocket31 "I really have low self-esteem so let me knock others down to feel better about myself" thread.
i actually have very high self esteem - my hubris gets me into trouble moreso than not
this phenomenon is just interesting to me, and a study was released today that made me wonder.
also i rarely make threads on the OT - like 2-3x per year

My two boys are exhausting, require a lot of time, patience, and money.
They require firm discipline but also a gentle disposition
They can annoy the crap out of me and make me want to wear noise canceling headphones
Their diapers are so awful that our house will likely have to be registered by the EPA as a superfund site after we move
But they are the light of my world and everything I listed above is totally worth it to have them in my life.
The joy of watching them learn new things and laugh and play with each other is greater than any joy I've experienced by myself in my 30 years.
If you've never been a parent you'll never understand, but the moment you become a parent you'll immediately get it

I can see your point. I've been in shite the past 5 months. It's a lot of work, especially when your wife is rediculoualy busy and can't help as much.
But god damn do I love that little girl. Seeing her makes it worth it. Couldn't have explained it until she came.

Because parents aren't selfish pieces of shite like you

you sound like a great parent and all that, but damn
all my friends who are parents go on these 10 minute rants describing the noises, the smells, sleep deprivation, and the awful things they must do to clean up after their children
then they make horrible jokes about all the immoral things they would do in exchange for just one hour nap and slience,
and when they have released this horror story onto me, it always ends with the same exact phrase- "it's all worth it"
i guess it just seems like one is validating their life choices? (coping) which is fine, i guess, just doesnt seem exactly honest
maybe i just dont "get it"

Kids are a handful, but I love my 3, even though my 2 girls are bossy and needy, just like their mother I guess.

I do see your point, though. Kids are expensive, and your time doesn't even really belong to you.
But, hey, I like my kids. They're okay people.

Life is not supposed to be 70 years of perpetual adolescence. If you are too scared to grow up just say so and we will move on to some WYHI threads.

I guess that's what drives me to stay in shape. I may not be able to get laid from countless women, I may have less money, and I may not be able to take all the trips I want, ALL BECAUSE OF KIDS, but I'll be damn if I'm going to be ugly.

People tend to make jokes about what they know and what their experiences are
Parenting takes up a lot of time and is very difficult, so naturally you have to have a sense of humor about it
Since you're not a parent you can't relate but if you ever become one you will
When people ask me how many kids we want I always say "probably just one" (we have two) bc it throws them off and I follow with "the older one isn't as cute anymore so we'll probably give him away"
It's a joke, I'm not actually going to give him away
But again, we make jokes about what we know and what we're doing on a regular basis
If I'm playing golf a lot I'll make jokes about how much golf sucks and I'm awful (I actually am), but in reality I love golf (even though I'm awful)
Look, not everyone is meant to be a parent. Lord knows there are plenty of awful parents out there from every demographic. But if you choose to be a parent and you recognize that sacrifices will have to be made and accept that fact, then being a parent is quite literally the coolest job in the world.
