Did anyone even read the article?

Apparently not.

They are wanting the restaurants that are there, under contract, to be open 7 days a week.

Assuming Chick-Fil-A doesn't already have a contract that allows them to be closed on Sunday, I don't have an issue with this. If you are going to contract to be a dedicated food provider, they can set the rules.

quote:

“While there is nothing objectionable about a fast-food restaurant closing on a particular day of the week, service areas dedicated to travelers is an inappropriate location for such a restaurant,” the legislation states. “Publicly owned service areas should use their space to maximally benefit the public. Allowing for retail space to go unused one-seventh of the week or more is a disservice and unnecessary inconvenience to travelers who rely on these service areas.”

This is reasonable.

If you've driven the NY State Thruway you know there's a lot of desolate road to nowhere.

It's gotta suck having no place to eat or piss because it's Sunday.

I'd be OK with CfA moving out so that restaurants without those restrictions can take over.

How quickly they go from “We don’t want that bigoted chicken in our state!” To “we want you to be open 7 days a week for that Schweet schweet tax revenue”

First thought that cross my mind.

I’d like a bill passed in Texas revoking outdated laws so liquor stores could CHOOSE to open on Sundays.

It is a proposed legislation.
Not the current contract.

And it is legislation.
As if the terms of a lease agreement require legislation to be binding.

You don't seem to understand the difference between and existing lease and "proposed" legislation. Lol

Chick fil a isn't the only service provider in these leases. A closed Chick fil a does not prevent a driver from eating a chicken sandwich on Sunday.

It does not become a "food desert" as you are implying.

In addition, Chick fil a sells more in 6 days than the other leases do in 7.
There is greater tax revenue for the municipality with Chick fil a over all of the other active leases.

There isn't a reasonable argument for proposed legislation. It is a vendetta.

New York hates what Chik Fil A stands for, or used to stand for.

It could simply be a way to try to force them out of New York.

I specifically said unless Chick-Fil-A's contract allowed them to be closed on Sundays.

Basically, I don't have an issue with the requirement of being open 7 days a week for a contracted location, as long as that is known in advance and doesn't violate an existing contract.

Contracts typically allow use of the property.
How one uses the property is not often included in the lease (i.e. hours of operation. Holiday closures. Weather closures).

We aren't talking about a lease requirement.
We are talking about legislation.
You don't see the difference?
quote:

as long as that is known in advance

If known in advance means pre-existing... then it was not. It was not known in advance when Chick Fil A moved into the lease.

and doesn't violate an existing contract.

The law would specifically violate the terms of the existing contract.

What I don't understand is why you would potentially support a law mandating hours in a lease when there are multiple restaurants available for the patrons to choose. The patrons would still have options. The patrons would still be served.
Why the necessity to create a law?

Over here in Temple, Texas the mall tried to force Chick-fil-A to open on Sundays. All Chick-fil-A did was close their mall store and purchase land just off the mall property and put up shop while keeping Sundays off. Not sure if this is the same as a private company asking Chick-fil-A to open on Sundays or leave vs government telling Chick-fil-A to open on Sundays.

They probably make exponentially more in a freestanding building with drive thru anyway.

It is like McDonald's cashier's demanding $18/hr right as the order kiosks started going into stores.

This is a nothing burger. There is already a contract awarded that has specifics in it about how many hot food places need to be available at any time. The company that was awarded the contract took that into account when selecting Chick Fil A and has alternate options that meet the requirements at all sites. The state would have to renegotiate the contract if they try to change the rules now or live with the 30-year contract they already awarded.

Pretty sure Chick Fil A would simply close those locations otherwise because they always put it in their contracts that they will not open on Sundays.

That makes no sense
