Wtf kind of bs is this. The government has no right to force any private business to do anything. Doesn't the fn government have better shite to do that regulate a private company's hours?

Sounds like someone is paying these legislators to make this bill in order for those spots to come open and to be filled with the company that is paying off the legislators.

IMO there's no way this holds up to a legal challenge.

I'd love to see them not challenge it and just close. I like that message better.

How quickly they go from “We don’t want that bigoted chicken in our state!” To “we want you to be open 7 days a week for that Schweet schweet tax revenue”

No, they aren't

Some random NY State Legislator proposed the legislation. It hasn't passed and almost certainly won't.

If it did it would instantly be struck down, even in NY.

They will just close those stores. New York needs them way more than they need New York.

Why not mandate that doctor's offices and usps be open 7 days a week since they too are government/taxed funded?

That's not what your link says.

You're a little late to the dance: Minimum wage, safety regulations, child labor laws, employer's share of payroll taxes, overtime pay requirements, food quality requirements, product safety requirements, EEO hiring practices.

Is the NY State Thruway government property? Chickfila doesn’t have to operate there if they want to avoid this. Still might not hold up to scrutiny if challenged

Ya think. This isn't going to pass. Random legislators propose wackjob legislation in every state that never sees the light of day.

This one would be instantly struck down if it passed, which it won't.

It's only Chik-fil-A's at state-owned rest stops, not in the entire state of New York. However, I'm sure there are provisions in their lease that allows them to close on Sunday; New York knew this when they agreed to lease the space to the restaurant.

quote:

According to WGRZ, the bill will require Chick-fil-A eateries at New York State Thruway service plazas to be open seven days a week. All Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed on Sundays.

State Assembly member Tony Simone and State Senator Michelle Hinchey, per the report, introduced the legislation.

Chick-fil-A is in 10 of the 27 new plazas, but frustrated has grown over the Sunday policy.

Looks like CfA will have grounds for major legal action if this becomes law.

quote:

Applegreen is required to have at least one hot and cold food option available 24 hours a day at all locations. Chick-fil-A’s Sunday closure is a brand requirement which Applegreen factored into their tenant plan. When the project is complete, Chick-fil-A will operate in less than half of the service areas on the Thruway – all of which have at least one other food concept and a convenience store open seven days a week with up to three additional concepts and a convenience store at the largest and highest volume locations.”

So, in other words, even with CfA closing on Sunday, these rest stops will still comply with the law.

Chick-fil-A open on Sundays?

Two New York State lawmakers have introduced just such a bill.

Chick-Fil-A, as a matter of company policy, is closed on Sundays “to allow Operators and their team members to enjoy a day of rest, be with their families and loved ones, and worship if they choose.”

In a statement provided to “Capital Tonight,” per Spectrum Local News, a spokesperson for the Thruway Authority said “as part of the new 33-year contract to manage these facilities, Applegreen is required to have at least one hot and cold food option available 24 hours a day at all locations.

The legislation must pass both houses of the Legislature, both controlled by Democratic supermajorities, before it can head to the governor’s desk for a signature or veto.

“While there is nothing objectionable about a fast-food restaurant closing on a particular day of the week, service areas dedicated to travelers is an inappropriate location for such a restaurant,” the legislation states. “Publicly owned service areas should use their space to maximally benefit the public. Allowing for retail space to go unused one-seventh of the week or more is a disservice and unnecessary inconvenience to travelers who rely on these service areas.”

Sounds like that's why they're trying to mandate them opening 7 days a week. I'm assuming chickfila pays to operate there so idk how they mandate their hours so long as they're paying rent
