On Airline and Severn.

WWL LINK

I know the location well since I live in the area. Pretty large lot that used to be a Shell Station (which has reopened down the road in front of strip mall where Premier Fitness is). Seems I had heard opening a restaurant on the lot of a former gas station was almost impossible to do. Maybe someone can chime in.
Anyway, the Jefferson Parish planners are pushing back because the franchisees want to have 78 parking spaces at the expense of landscaping, trees, and buffer strips. Personally, 78 spaces seems like overkill when drive thru’s are so popular.
If the parish can help that corner look better at the expense of some parking spaces I’m all for it. The Texas Motel across the street was recently demolished and Harvey Marine will be building a multi-million dollar office in its place.
BTW, how is the new CFA on Tulane doing? I don’t eat much fast food and I since I haven’t heard anything about it since it opened so I assume it’s rolling along.

You have to let Chick Fil A do what they want, fricking printing $$, collect the taxes..deal with the traffic isues..IMHO, but I don't live in Metry, so I don't know how bad the traffic would get, etc. Does the one on Vets the Drive Thru cluster the traffic out to the street?

This would make Severn unbearable at that location.

That’s one of the worst intersections I can think of. Can you even imagine the hold up of traffic from the line? And then there’s the school. There’s too much going on there. Sometime you can’t even turn into Vets from Cleary bc of Chick-Fil-A it gets so backed up. Shell was good to have there. But they were riddled with derelicts and thieves. Racetrack was also considering if I recall, not sure what happened there. I think they wanted the lot by post office but was told no.

Yes and when it gets really bad it can mess with the Cleary/Vets intersection.

I hope the Chick-fil-A at Severn doesn't screw with the Airline/Severn intersection the same way.

It won’t matter if they have 78 parking spots or 178, it still won’t be enough. Chic Fi La is a phenomenon unlike anything the world has ever seen

There are 30 people working in there, if anything they need employee parking

That’s a good point I never thought of even though I doubt every employee has their own car.
I live in the neighborhood and would hate to see the perceived traffic mess. I’m not sure which way they would allow access; via Severn, Airline, or both? As mentioned earlier the CFA on Vets near Cleary renders the right lane of Vets unusable during operating hours. I’m sure the parish has taken notice of that. Probably the same for the one on Vets in Kenner. Anyone have experience with the one on Tulane?

Don’t forget the cars from Airline trying to switch places to turn on Severn with the cars coming down from the roundabout forcing themselves all the way to the left turn lane.

I hate the lane swapping at that spot already.

Presumably this location would pull traffic away from the Vets location. So I doubt it would be as bad.

But still, that’s going to be a tough location to do a full service spot, if I was the parish I’d worry less about the parking spots and more about the traffic backups.

Yes. There’s gonna be some road rage and accidents. Forgot about the roundabout and merge. LoL.

Only if they can clean up the Mexican tire place across the street.

The Vets location is an older design with the single drive through and set closer to the road.
I think the proposed new location would have the double lane drive through, which is a big difference.

Still seems like a tough traffic area to make it work. The old Metairie NIMBY folks are upset with so much stuff being crammed up and down Metairie Rd, so I’m sure they are going to fight this.

Not sure if it’s the same total acerage as Tulane/Carrollton but that location has done a phenomenal job of keeping the traffic off of Tulane. The double drive all the way around is clutch.
