Seems like the family should easily win a lawsuit against the new "owners" since they're being dicks about it.

Or, how many people would do the right thing versus the lawful thing, aka taking your dog back?

The new "owners" deserve an arse beating.

Are you kidding me? What kind of person would say no here?

Especially someone who was willing to adopt to begin with.

You'd think they have some understanding and compassion here.

What in the world. I am really blown away by this. She should be able to go to court and get her dog back. I understand if this had been a year or even six months, but a couple of weeks?

Chicago Woman Sues Animal Control After Giving Her Dog Up for Adoption

the city’s Department of Animal Care and Control. Its workers found Zeus when he escaped from the backyard of Moran-West’s dad’s home in January of last year.

So Animal Control gave it up for adoption after finding it lost.

What a poorly-worded thread title.

Curious as to why she hasn't filed criminal charges for theft.

How is this different than dropping something, someone finds it, sells it to a pawn shop, and someone else buys it? If you can prove it's yours, you get your property back, right?

No, the family would not return Zeus to Moran-West

Sounds like what should have happened was fetching tails should have told them they have to give the dog back.

Because it was a "legal" adoption through the org so it becomes a civil disagreement and they'll have to argue it in court, unfortunately.

It couldn't argued that the organization took something (pet) that didn't belong to them, then gave it to someone else in exchange for money? Isn't that exactly what happened? I guess I could just "find" a car, take it, sell it, and all's good! New owner can just say "no" when the original owner wants their car back, right?

The dog had it's name, and the owner's phone number EMBROIDERED ON THE frickING COLLAR!

I sued Calcasieu Parish for just such a case. Golden owed by a single mom and her daughter, about 10 years old.

Mom calls animal control and tells them we are on our way to pick up dog.

At that point, the dog had already been put down, "accidently".

Little girl went nuts, obviously.

It's still a civil argument at that point.

Jasper, AL's Humane Society did the same thing a few years back. Boxer got out of it's yard. Good Samaritan found it, took it to the Humane Society. It was dead within hours.

First, kudos to the animal rescue organizations that work with local animal control centers.
These groups will pick up many of the adoptable pets and immediately start looking for fosters or permanent homes. These groups charge $100 or more for a pet. It seems high, but none of these organizations are operating in the black.
Zues looks like a golden retriever, a popular breed. Therefore, they knew they could adopt easily.

I've kind of soured on a lot of these groups. They take the obviously adoptable dogs/cats, charge insane fees, and put insane conditions in place.

How do you suppose they were going to get the new family's name and contact info without asking?

I don’t care what the adoptive dog people say. I’m going to get my dog.

I know exactly what you mean. I called one organization to inquire about a 3 legged mutt and she asked me a lot of judgey questions instead of just talking to my vet. I’ll only go through my local shelter or a reputable breeder in the future.

I have a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career, skills that make me a nightmare for dog hoarding scumbags.
