How do people live there? Honest question. i mean how the hell did people live there before modernization? Could you imagine being a fur trapper or explorer?

People like four seasons and wind chills of -55 is an anomaly.

17 MPH right now.

So about 7 higher than avg wind speeds. Nice.

Interesting how Dallas has the same avg wind speed as Chicago

I lived in North Dakota for a couple years and people just don't go outside when it is like that. You have to cover your face or your skin will burn. Even got brain freezes (like when you drink something cold too fast) just by taking out the trash without something on my head. Brutal cold is all I can describe that area during winter. And winter temps (below 30-40deg) can happen in late August through late April or early May.

When it gets up to 20-30deg during the winter, people would be outside in shorts/tshirt like it is summertime.

Never been to Chicago, so I don't know how humid their hot days really get, but didn't they have a heat wave in the past decade that killed a handful of people that didn't have air conditioning?

Most of this winter has been fairly mild, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s. It's only dropped in the past two weeks, and temps will be back up in the 40s as soon as Friday or Saturday.

Chicago is one of the best summer cities I've ever been to.

One of the rare days per year (or less) when at the same moment:

This winter has been good... I was golfing the first weekend of January as an example. Weather really took a turn about a week ago.

Generally, the summers are extremely nice but we do get a few days here and there that are extremely hot.

It’s called “fire”. I honestly wonder more about how people lived in the deep South before A/C.

Also, this is once in a generation cold. Not like this is typical. Though a typical winter is plenty cold too.

I think it got the "Windy City" moniker from New Yorkers who referred to the people who lived in Chicago as windbags.

They apparently took that "second city" rivalry pretty serious back in the late 1800s.
