This man was a district commander with 31 years on the job. He was not supposed to be one of the guys on the streets facing the danger, but he did so, even though he was off-duty and could've sat back and watched.
That man is a true hero.

He was in charge of training the mounted police officers and was in charge of lots of training. He had been training earlier in the day in the area. Got a call on the radio and saw suspect running and he intercepted is how I think I saw it described.

Believe it or not, there are a ton of very conservative people in Illinois and in the Chicagoland area. They generally live in rural or suburban areas where gun laws are very different than Chicago laws

Yeah, I don't think a lot of people realize that liberals are a very heavily concentrated group. They pretty much only reside in the bigger cities. Anything outside of that often leans conservative. All of my friends from New York are hardcore Trump loved, but most just assume everyone in New York is as hardcore left as NYC.

That is a huge hit to the force.
That's two 30 year veterans killed in a week. An Ohio officer was killed late last week in a domestic incident who had been on for 30 years. Those guys are eligible for retirement but choose to stay on to serve the city. It's horrible seeing a young kid's life cut short, but it's also horrible to see someone who spent the bulk of his life as a police officer only to be shot dead in an instant.

I’ve never been up north much so I guess I can forget how different the state can be county by county.
I just got back from Austin, TX. Worlds apart from the surrounding area. I had a great time, but I do not fit in with the people of Austin and they knew it.

Generally speaking, that is true. I know Chicago PD and chicago FD. The Chicago FD just saw his first dead body a couple of days ago after over two years stationed in downtown Chicago.
I walk to work all the time. A few miles either way. I’ve seen schizos homeless people but that’s it.
Now, the ghettos are as bad as you can get but that’s a completely different animal. I have a coworker whose family lives on the Westside and her nephew and cousin have been killed in the last year and one Uber driver’s son had been killed in the ghetto.
But as a middle class white guy in his 20s, I haven’t really experienced anything bad at all in the grand scheme of things. The town of 15,000 I grew up next to was more dangerous than where I am in Chicago

Chicago's ghettos might as well be Raqqa or Kabul. They truly need to be wiped out.
