Most posters here would prefer the bar on the other side of Pastime, Georges Place…

That’s my go-to recommendation for A&M fans.

WTF is with Baton Rouge and the bars/restaurants congregating underneath I-10?

Less of a fight with NIMBYs.

I still think it's criminal, and still pisses me off to no end (even though I'm decades past having any dog in the fight), to see what they did to the old University Shopping Center space where Chelsea's was. They had a real opportunity to orient everything toward State Street and keep a decently vibrant streetscape scene from there to Highland, to Chimes. Instead they just continued an even worse version of basically strip mall hell and that stretch of State Street just feels like a wasteland. It doesn't help Chimes Street or the feel of the area at all.

Hell yes. Chelsea's' is awesome. I didn't realize they had been closed so long.

Is the varsity going to reopen?

No. Chimes will expand into that space. Varsity is done.

The guy who owned Chelsea opened the Mid City Beer Garden off of Govt Street and they have a limited food menu, which includes many of the old Chelsea favorites (including the grilled cheese with tomato soup)

There are a lot of older people who go to LSU games (football, basketball, baseball, etc) and will go to pasttime every time. They will not even think about going anywhere else.

Im not sure what type of business they do on a day to day basis, but I do know that if you go there after a basketball or baseball game (and I assume football games) it will be packed..
