re: Check Engine Light Question - Inspection timing

If the light went out itself, it was probably managed by the required number of key turns and mileage. The code was possibly thrown by something as simple as a slightly loose gas cap.

Put a piece of black electrical tape over it.

I've never had anyone check anything other than lights and window tint, and horn when I get inspection stickers. I've been driving for nearly 30 years.
I don't think the place I get inspection stickers checks that many things.

I'd have to use two pieces of tape. One over the light, the other over the OBD2 port to block the scanner they hook up.
It's just one of the many perks of living in the Baton Rouge metro. As if sucking down chemical plant emissions weren't bonus enough, we get to spend extra for extra hassle for vehicle inspections.

FWIW, I had a car with a failed catalytic converter. At first it would throw the code sporadically (in either cooler or warmer weather, I don't recall). Anyway, I would wait until it was off and take it to the inspection station. Eventually, it went to where it was always on. Before I sold it, I would manually take the codes off while it was running then head immediately to the inspection station (10 miles). They could still tell somehow, but they would give me the inspection anyway because the actual light was not illuminated in the car. I think my cover story was I just swapped the battery or some such.

5 parish area around br is on emissions check list due to air quality(not from vehicles but hey why not) even if you go outside of area they have to check if vehicle is registered in one of those 5 parishes.

That's the bullshite I'm trying to avoid. I'll probably let it go another week or so before rolling the dice.

I had a light come on right at time of inspection. Guy said he was gonna fail me so I said never mind bf I gave him money. I took out a sticky note, wrote a reminder on it and stuck it on the dash over the light and drove to next place. Got my sticker and went on my way.

Tighten your gas cap and drive your car. Problem was solved. That's most likely what your issues.
FWIW I've been driving with a broken side impact airbag sensor for 2 years and have not failed inspection. I'm pretty sure all the inspection places do its check to make sure you don't have any emissions mods on your car. And that all your lights are fully functioning.

08 Silverado light keeps coming on and going back off by itself. I just had my inspection sticker put on last week. Was told by the inspection station a Silverado you need to drive 75 miles if the light turned off by itself and it will pass inspection.
150 miles if you reset it yourself.

I know all of the places I've been to in this 5 parish Area, they usually scrape the old sticker off first. Then hook up the computer to the data port under the dash. Then do the rest of the horn/blinkers/lights check. Then take their money.
They don't hook up only if they see a check-engine light. They scan all vehicles through a State computer system and your sticker is already removed by the time you get that far.
System is a-hole

Perfect. I'll make sure to clock enough distance.

Put some black tape over the light

people still get inspection stickers?
Just don't get one.
I've been driving my truck for 5 years now without one.

I have heard 100 miles. I have a 2007 Suburban with a similiar code. The replacement of the purge solenoid valve worked in 2013 and recently. It is easy to change and costs about $30.00.
