I don't see how anyone from south Louisiana wouldn't know about her.

I would probably say in Acadiana specifically. People in southeastern Louisiana may not have heard of her nor people in western Cameron Parish and the like. Very well known in Lafayette, I knew about her at a very young age. Of course, it may have stuck with me because my baby sister is named Charlene though we have always called her Charlie (no pics, she is closing in on 60).

I’m not Catholic but have been to her grave. It’s all about Faith.
Her story is an incredible one and if she brings peace to someone, that’s a beautiful thing.

Aren't we all servants of God? Except for you heathens of course.

The two weeks it took for her to die after being diagnosed with leukemia she spent offering up her agonizing pain and suffering for others.

For decades people have reported miracles after praying for her intercession.

Charlene has been declared a Servant of God which is the first step toward canonization. Information sent to the Vatican by the Diocese of Lafayette was recently unsealed. Now the Vatican investigation will begin. If she is declared a saint it will still be a years-long process.

Not too many Louisiana Catholics know about the Shreveport martyrs, the five priests who died during a yellow fever epidemic. They are also along the path to sainthood.

Friend of the family grew up around Lafayette. Extremely Catholic. Had symptoms and a very suspect x-Ray and scan…radiologist basically said definitely lung cancer. She made a special trip to see some healer nun in BR/Gonzalez (not sure of actual location) and visited Charlene’s grave. Subsequently had biopsy and all came back negative. Will have surgery but current thought is completely benign. Not saying anything mystical happened …just passing along a story.
