We are all bound by the government, some slightly less than others. Better to just accept it and be pragmatic.

nothing like owning property in this free country having to pay taxes every year for forever on the said value.

Freedom and liberty are only as safe as the people watching over it, and in America’s case, that would be us. Governments job is to restrict the hell out of it. Our job is to remain vigilant and fight on its side, regardless if it’s our freedom and liberty or another’s. The trouble with us is that we only seem to care about it when it’s our freedom or liberty that’s under attack.

Freedom is an illusion not because we are bound by government, but because we SHOULD feel bound by the responsibility that freedom necessitates, eventhough we have free will to not have that responsibility. Government exists because we are human and never take the responsibility of freedom correctly.
Just because you have the freedom to do something, doesn't mean you should do something. There are a long list of things we should do, or ways we should do things, but we don't. Real Freedom means choosing the right thing, even though you can choose the bad. That's where truth and good align.
But humans, in general, suck at the most important things. We are better at distracting ourselves and taking freedom for granted. We purposefully choose the wrong thing "because freedom," which is the exact opposite of freedom.

I believe freedom is relative. Compared to China and Somalia, we’re pretty frickin free.
