That is a pretty big stretch.

What have I said that is contrary to the basic teachings of Christianity?

Well that's really specific. Super small, huh? Is that within the federal restrictions?

Nothing, but to quote the late, great Joe Diffie “Lord I wanna go to heaven, but I don’t wanna go tonight”

So the gov can prohibit a church gathering but allow businesses of 50+ to continue? And what about business owners of gyms where they dont have 50...how can he selectively stop them but we have hobby stores open?

People being ok with this is very disturbing

Looks like everyone got their questions answered.
They held service last night without a single interruption. Woody Jenkins, who I thought was a respectable man, streamed the service live but only the audio because some members were fired from their jobs because they attended services.
I listened to the pastors opening statement and it was as informative as the authorities not showing up to shut them down. He said, in not so many words, "for those of you that have lost your job and/or have been charged for continuing to come here, when our lawsuits are settled, be sure to give God his 10%........"
So not only did the authorities do the right thing in honoring their rights, the pastor openly admitted it was nothing more than a scheme to file lawsuits.

But Spell believes this order violates his right to religious freedom.

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this one, in keeping with Christianity and what the Bible demands of Christians to follow Christ, and I simply cannot find one passage that Christ instructs His followers that is being denied this pastor in order to practice the Christian Faith.

quote:

Matthew 18:20 - For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.

Nobody is denying the gathering together in Christ’s name to worship God, just that you keep the numbers down to no more than ten, and in this day and time with Facebook Live, and the internet in general, nobody is denying you the ability to spread the word or lead people in praise and worship of Him through social media, or other source where every human has a smart phone or access to the internet.

quote:

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 1 Corinthians 6:19

God is not housed in a building that man constructs, but rather in everyone who invites Him into their hearts, so this idea that God needs a building is simply not true, and this goes to the other scripture quoted that where 2 or 3 are gathered in My name, there I am in the midst of them.

quote:

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. Romans 13:1-2

Government in this case in particular is not mandating you to sin, or causing you to sin in any way shape or form. They’re just placing demands on gathering sizes for the time being in order to not put other people at risk of death by spreading a virus around.

This grandstanding nonsense by this church is counter productive and in my estimation is a very poor witness to people for What Christianity is all about. This is not a permanent thing, but a very temporary thing to get this pandemic under control. All this grandstanding does is makes this people look ridiculous and irresponsible, and IMO that’s not a very good witness of Christianity.

So its Constitutional for a pastor to be arrested for having church but plenty of non essential businesses are allowed to continue to operate?

Wrong. No one told the pastor he can't have church, they told him he couldn't have a gathering of 1000 people. He was free to broadcast his services like every other church is doing. Likewise, those non-essential businesses aren't able, at least not legally, to operate the same. Assuming you mean restaurants in the non-essential group, they are forced to do take-out only ie change their normal operations.

Seems discriminatory.

Not discriminatory as it applies equally. He was given his warning and still chose to tell JBE to F off.
