Yeah same here

The dramatic Facebook mourning of Muhammad Ali was comical coming from people who never met him.

There are no celebrity deaths that ever hit me ‘hard’ except one. Jimi Hendrix.

I’ve never cried over a celebrity death. I’ve never understood that. How do you cry over the death of someone you didn’t know personally? But the Hendrix death still pisses me off to this day. I really hated that one.

Others that really bugged me were Paul Newman, Reagan, Robin Williams, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, I’m sure I’m leaving out a few more.

Brandon Lee. I idolized his dad and still have a hard time thinking Brandon died in real life the same way a scene was made in Game of Death posthumously about his father.

I was actually talking about Vin Sully a few months ago with my cousin in L.A. He said that he had seen him recently and had a nice conversation at a lunch place with him ( he would talk to anyone provided you were not an arse). He came away saying that he was amazed with Scully that he sounded as though he could go call a game that evening.

Pat Sumrall . Growing up, he was football. The 3 pm game on CBS. His voice in the Fall doing a game, made you think all was right in the world...at least for those 3+ hours

Steve Irwin and Kobe. Was a huge Steve Irwin fan growing up, and I’ll never forget waking up that dreadful morning, and seeing that on the news. Crushed me as a kid.

Kobe’s death was weird. Hard to come to terms with for some reason, and it just felt like a big dark blanket went over the earth or something. The world hasn’t really been the same since either, so maybe that’s why.

Only 2, really.

Robin Williams and Michael Jackson. MJ is in there bc I sorta didn't ever truly believe he touched kids.

Honorable mention to Chris Farley.

My immediate thought when I saw the subject line was Tom petty. It was one of those concerts I wanted to see.

Whiskey Myers was getting popular and I bought four tickets for their show at the varsity in 2019. My wife said “why would you buy those I don’t want to listen to that shite”. It was the first time in our 15 years of marriage that I decided that I’d just do what I wanted despite her disinterest. I got three buddies to go with me and to this day we still reference that night.

Now I got a new motto:
Buy the ticket, go to the show. It applies to every aspect of my life. Make the investment. Get the degree. Prepare for the interview.

I’m not gonna miss the next show and I won’t back down.

David Bowie and Prince died within about 3 months of each other. They were both huge when I was a teen. Big music talent lost in a short time.
