There's also no information on how obese these people actually are.
I don't have a link or anything so take it with a grain of salt but I read a few days ago that the danger threshold is 35% bmi. I'm 5' 8" so that's 230 pounds. That's pretty damn fat.

35 bmi and above is considered morbid obesity if the person has any health conditions

40 and above is morbid obesity regardless of other health conditions

No kidding. Plus are these people only obese or have obesity and something else like type-2 diabetes or hypertension. After a couple of young kids i'm now obese but have normal blood chemistries and normal BP. But I also maintain a high level of activity. Hopefully I have a lower chance of dying compared to someone else my size that's just a fat lazy slob.

Anyone who tries to deny that pre-existing health conditions are a factor is a fool. That said, it’s scary that people who are considered healthy by our standards are dying from this disease. I have a close friend who contracted the virus and, while he did not require intubation, he was on supplemental O2 for over a week. He’s a firefighter and an Ironman triathlete, in fantastic physical shape, yet he said he thought he was going to die. Luckily, his wife and daughter didn’t catch the virus from him because he basically locked himself in their spare bedroom for 2 weeks.

Well, that’s the unholy trinity, those three usually go hand in hand..

and you can add renal insufficiency in there as well...

at 6’0” 185 lbs is your upper limit on being in the normal weight category

And as someone who is 6’0” I actually start looking soft/pudgy at 180 lbs

I’m currently 170 and waist is 32”

At 180 lbs it’s getting tight at a 34” size. So I would say the range is right on for me.

it's pretty spot on for the vast majority of people, even those who work out

We should consider the entire range of “obese” and overweight to be something we address and criticize.

Wow. So someone my height (5' 8") can weigh over 260 and not be considered morbidly obese?

That's insane.

Do you have Asthma or Diabetes? Because these make up a lot of the 40%. Don't make it sound like the 40% is completely healthy.

I bet more than a few have HIV/AIDS. Looking it up and they are saying over 1.1 million HIV cases in US. I would imagine they would be hit hard and most likely are under age 49 unless you're Magic Johnson.

Well, this shite is going to be around for a while and it doesn't take that long to start improving your health. Besides, Covid is like reason #208 to lose some weight if you're overweight.

I can't understand why this isn't really being emphasized enough by the media but it's probably because the majority of the nation doesn't really care enough about their health. There were already tons of reason for people to be more responsible with the way they eat, exercising, general health etc. like living longer, not costing every other healthy american tons of money in insurance premiums and really just caring about themselves.
We're in the information age. You can find out what in the market is healthy, easy ways to get you heart going and anything else by simply googling on your phone. Nobody has any excuses anymore and, like anyone needed one, this is just one more reason to be and stay healthy... a 100 year virus could kill you.
