You do you, but you realize you have an infinitely higher chance of being injured in a car wreck while driving there than being bitten by a shark while swimming at the beach? It’s an irrational fear.

you might not want to see an overhead view of just offshore of just about any crowded tourist beach

For real. There are websites that track tagged great whites and it’s amazing how close they get to the popular beaches. Scary shite.
I’ve been scared shitless of sharks since I was a kid thanks to Jaws. I barely get up to my thighs in the water and only for 5-10 minutes at most. Literally my worst fear. There was a time for 5-6 years I wouldn’t even step foot in the ocean when going to the beach.

These Louisiana educations man...I'd rather be searching for a way to help than standing there videoing. This isn't hard to grasp people.

I've also heard it mentioned that Great Whites are most dangerous during their "awkward teenage years" because they transition from eating fish to eating seals but they haven't really mastered what a seal looks and taste like yet.
That's one of the theories, and it does make sense. Also, as they grow their caloric needs skyrocket. The fish/smaller prey diet doesn't sustain them, so the drive for larger prey kicks in. The hungrier they are the more dangerous they are to anything in the water. That could drive attacks by the size white sharks you're talking about.
I'm of the belief that the only reason that shark (or really any apex predator you come across) doesn't eat you is because it just wasn't hungry enough.
The other group of white sharks that are most threatening to humans are the pregnant females. It is believed that the story of the fatal Mexico attack back in January talked about last night is attributable to that group. Pregnant females are known to come into the Gulf of California during the late Winter months, and more have been spotted/tracked doing just that over recent years. There have been several fatal attacks in the common fishing spots around there over the past few years.

Question... would you rather (in general) be injured in a car wreck or bitten by a shark?

Would be a hell of a thing getting mauled by a big arse tiger shark and when you get your head above water all you see is people filming your demise.

That's their home. It is kind of like them visiting their "Florida room" to catch some sun and maybe an easy meal. They'll hunt the shallows when there is increased sealife activity there because the shallow water and bottom shrinks the battlefield. They can grab many quick, small meals without exerting too much energy.
When in the water at the beach, pay attention to any increased activity from other sealife. It will draw in all the predators.

If you had been there you would have been an eyewitness just like the one videoing only your account wouldn't have been on video. I would think even the one videoing didn't fully comprehend what was going on in first 10-15 seconds.

I use to swim a half mile 3 days a week off the coast NW Florida. I have been bumped by a shark a handful of times. Scares the shite out of you once you realize what just brushed against you but there really isn't much you can do while out there. It wasn't until mt late 30s when I started to paddle board that I realized how many sharks are actually right past the sandbar. I don't swim out there anymore and this is coming from someone who spearfished for over 10 years.

I did a ton of offshore fishing when I lived in FL, tuna towers were very popular where I fished(mainly out of Jupiter inlet,) it's unbelievable how fast the food chain cranks up the minute you put something in the water, you think you're in the middle of nowhere and all of a sudden it's an aquarium behind the boat, ton of activity right behind the baits that can be seen from the tower

"searching for ways to help"

Your arse would be watching with everyone else. You gonna swim out and fight the shark?
