Pre-marital sex is a sin also. Did you, or do you engage in that? Why is homosexuality judged more harshly?

But would a teacher shacking up with his her heterosexual boyfriend/girlfriend be fired? Or someone who was divorced and remarried without their first marriage being annulled by the church?

This one for sure has happened. As far as shackling up, this one is much grayer area. In this teacher case, there weren’t merely living together but they were married.

Catholic school fires Louisiana band director after husband's obituary reveals he is gay
Imagine what would happen if they fired all the gay priests.

No wonder he was so good at blowing a horn

Sounds like some big donor who probably didn’t like the director in the first place got wind of the obituary and forced the schools hand. Is what it is. The school sounds like they are chickenshit though. They knew he was not honoring the morality clause and hired him anyways.

I side with the gay band geek, but anyone who signs a contract with a "wink and a nod" should understand that enforcement is almost certainly a matter of when, not if.
Now I wonder how well they could prove homosexual acts were performed.

So I guess since priests don't have to sign contracts stating that they will not frick little boys, they just get transferred instead of being fired?
That makes sense. "Morality clause".

If the school knew he was openly gay and just now decided to do something does he not have any legal recourse?
No
Reading the initial post and a few of the subsequent ones, and knowing we have a lot of attorneys here, I thought given the length of the thread there would be a lively legal discussion, but nope, the legal side was summed up with simply "no".
Setting aside the fact the jurisdiction is Louisiana, which is an oddball legal state, but less odd every day, there is actually a very strong possibility, given the limited details, that the contract clause is not enforceable now.
There is a strong chance (in most states) if the school knew of the breach for years, there is now an implied waiver of conduct, rendering the clause unenforceable for that particular breach.
A couple of analogies that are likely known by laymen are:
failure to enforce intellectual property rights can result in losing the rights
use it or lose it
If it can be shown "the school" through its agents knew of the breach for some period of time without action it is very likely there is a waiver of conduct. The answer is far from a simple "no" but that is almost always the case in law.

which by the way is against the teachings of the Catholic Church and the old testament
Are we all members of the Nation of Israel? The Old Testament is about the establishing of the Nation of Israel and God's covenant with them. We are held to the covenant of the New Testament.

People who love their sin conveniently over look this.
It's just this simple. He didn't tell the adulteress to go forth and commit more adultery.

WWJD?
Jesus would have given him the opportunity to repent of his sins, publicly reject his past sinful behavior, and follow Him.
If he refused to do this, Jesus would have done exactly what the school did here: remove him from His presence.

Probably.
I had friends that moved in together a few months before wedding and the gal was a teacher at a local Catholic school. They had to keep it hush hush that they moved in together because she was worried about the morality clause and the potential of it being used against her.
